College

Ive been in College for 4 semester now and...............

Theres way to much BS involved!
Your expected to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life in college. That desicion can effect wether you are happy or miserable for the rest of your life. Ive changed my major 3 times now and Im not even close to a degree because what I took for my last major doesn't count towards anything in my new major. That wouldn't bother me if it weren't the fact that I have to take a sh*t load of credits that cost a sh*t load of money that is now wasted in the classes that don't help me. I might get an associates degree in 3 years if Im lucky. I would just "deal with it" and pick something but this desicion is too important to take that lightly.............. Theres a lot more beefs I have with college but......... maybe later.........

Re: College

What were your majors? Were they even closely related?

As a college freshman i now feel there is a lot more to look forward to.

Re: College

Don't feel bad man itis like that for almost everyone. I could not decide what I wanted to do until I was in my 20's. Take your time and make sure it is what you want to do, but try not to stress over it too much.

What type of majors did you have?

Re: College

Heck. I even changed schools to do what I want. You just gotta make sure it's what you really want to do.

I want to go into a Police Academy but Ill have to wait until next spring. After a year Ill be a Cop and can just earn my CRJ degree whilst working as a cop. Ill pretty sure im gonna do the acedemy now. But what makes me mad is that 2 years in and Im nowhere.

Re: College

Well, Im going to college next fall, and Im wanting to pursue journalism, because it's something that I've always loved doing; writing and whatnot, and I would love to be able to get up in the mornings and know what needs to be done, and do it(as far as journalism as a career). However college, as you said, is more or less a time in which to find yourself and what you will be doing the rest of your life, and the bottom line is do what makes you happy. Don't go for money, because if that's all you're after then it's a waste. Bah, I'm ranting. I'm sorry about your situation, hopefully in time you will figure out what you want to do. But, look at it this way, with all the classes you've taken that do not go towards a new major, at least you'll be a more rounded individual because of them. Good luck with whatever you decide upon.

I have a hard time deciding because I have MANY interests and goals in my life. There are several thing I love to do and would love to do, if I choose a career I feel I am wasting my potential and with that my life. College is a paradox to me.

Re: College

Well, as it seems you have many talents, which one do you feel you can do the best and make a difference/have an impact with the most?

Thats why I would like to be a Cop. I have the chance to help people and I get to have fun(I can do a lot of fun stuff being a cop).

But Im not gonna stop at just being a cop as long as I can help it.

There in lies the problem. To achieve something, there are other things that must be sacrificed along the way. I'm not going to tell you that you can't do other things, but if you really do wish to become a police officer, you need to get down and go after it instead of worrying about what could have been. If so many people spent time worrying about what they COULD do while at the same time, their future they know they really want to pursue is sitting there, they are depriving themselves as well as others of the good that could come from their future.

The problem is that to be stable you have to focus on one thing. I want(and will) do many things if I can find a way to. College is based on you doing one thing for the rest of your life and I can't do that. The problem with being a cop is that I will enjoy it but I will not be able to afford my other hobbies. However if I did something else that made me money then I can afford my hobbies however I won't be happy with my work. Im both happy and unhappy with either options.

I need to trick the economy into letting me do whatever.... that trick is the lotto

Not all, but I believe the majority of people who are in the working world aren't happy with their jobs. I still talk to adults who have been working for 10+ years and they say they still don't know what they want to do. For myself. I'll be happier once I'm out of college. Yea, I'll miss not having to do nothing blah blah blah. But for me, I'll like the fact that I have a schedule everyday, and be busy, and also glad I won't have to do homework. Well probably have to bring work home sometimes, but not all the time.
