Moral Obligation

I feel that I have have a moral obligation to respect those who respect me and not to wrong others that are not deserving, etc. However I noticed that when I was playing an XBOX game, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. When the game came to a desicion screen, I felt obligated to "do the right thing" instead of say just lop the guy in half with my lightsaber. But when I play GTA3 I love to kill as many people as possible. Im guessing it is because those actions have no consequences in GTA where as in KOTOR( ) Your actions have a greater importance. Yeah I know its just a video game as well but I just find it intersting that a video game might define a persons character.

Im just wondering if anyone else has ever experianced this or has an opinion?

Re: Moral Obligation

Well in comparison, GTA always had the emphasis on killing people which was a part of the game no matter what you did. The Star Wars games have generally been about you being the good guy and stopping evil.

But in GTA you dont need to drive on the sidewalk or kill every person you see in order to complete the game. The people you needed to kill in GTA were gangsters or pimps not innocent people though.

Re: Moral Obligation

I look at it this way: Pissed off at someone? Pretend they are EVERYONE in GTA!!! Wanna be the man? Play KOTOR. GTA is a good game, and no, you don't have to kill everyone in order complete the game, but you know that even if your goal in the beginning was to not do so, at some point you'd say "fuckit" and start shooting. I know I have, and you know what? It's fun

My point isnt that.....

My point is that if the way you conduct yourself in the game has any pertanence to how you conduct yourself in real life.
