New engine in old Corvette question

I thought I'd ask the experts here whether it's possible to fit a new(er) Z06 engine in my old 1975 Stringray? The idea of placing a new engine in the 1975 sounds appealing at the moment, rather than rebuilding the existing engine, but was wondering if the chassis would even accept it.

On that subject, if I had the original existing engine rebuilt (assuming this would be a cheaper option), what can I expect in terms of reliability, over how many miles? How much does it typically cost to rebuild an engine (I'm guessing about $5000)?

Thanks for your advice,

Mike

Re: New engine in old Corvette question

you could rebuild your 75 motor for hell of alot cheaper then putting in a ls6 out of a zo6 $ 1,000-$3,000 depending on horsepower you want. a very good alternitive would be a zz4 from gmpp i install one in my car and with some tuning and street tires it went 13.2 at 105.

The zz4 motor is great for more performance and reliability. I would do that over a rebuild and the zz4 cost me less than a rebuild

yes you can put an ls6 into it. at the shop I go to there was a 77 with a supercharged ls1 in it complete with 6speed tranny. it cost the guy a lot though. I"d go with the zz4 and if you want more hp then stroke it out.
