Question ignition module

I was just told I need a new ignition module to the tune of $550 for my l992 lumina. I was wondering if I could replace this myself and just where I would find it on my engine. Also, what does it look like?

Re: ignition module

what size engine
3.1 or 2.8 you can find it under the coil packs on the front of the engine where your plug wires connect, you have to remove the coil packs and put them on the new ignition module.

Re: ignition module

ignition control module for 3.1L at Auto Zone for $99. It can be a royal PITA trying to get the stupid thing back up in there, don't replace if there are young children, ladies, or preachers around

Re: ignition module

Make sure it is not the coils! What I have found is if the Tach needle "vibrates" at idle it is probably the coils and less exspensive. If the Tach needle doesn't "vibrate" then it is the module. Good luck!!
