Flowmaster install

How hard is it to install American Thunder Flowmaster Catback on a 96 GT. I am a complete noob when it comes to the mechanics of my car. I'm just wondering if you think I would be able to do it or if it would be better to get it profesionally installed

Any monkey with wrenches and a jack can do it. Now before you choose to use that as a prerequiste to do it remember.... Some people are dummer than monkeys.

Re: Flowmaster install

The smart thing to do would probably to be take it to an exuast shop and have them weld it in that way it would be done right and you have to worry with leaks, besides if you all ready have the muffler it should only cost about $30or $40 bucks and 20min of your time no big deal (just a thought)

Do not weld the cat-back!!!! There is no need to weld with ball and socket Ford exhuast. It doesn't leak and this design also makes it easy to take off which if like me happens a lot.

I second that vote. I've never heard of any modern day flowmaster cat-backs leaking unless they are rusted to shit. And like GTStang said, much easier to take on and off for future work.

Very easy to intall. All you need is a ratchet and socket(9/16"?), a jack and stands, and some patience getting the tailpipes in. Maybe an hours work.

I think he might have been talking about where the intermediate pipe attaches to the muffler, and the muffler to the tail pipe, so no clamps are used. Still the clamps will work just fine in those spots.

Razor, if you wanna wait till April to get your exhaust, I'll be doing a "how to" on my car when I install my new exhaust system. Then you will see how easy it really is.

Re: Flowmaster install

I already ordered it, it should be here tommrow. Is there any really complicated steps to installing the new exhaust system or any cutting or welding to do to it or is it just unclamping the old system then clamping the new system in?

Take a Sawzall and cut the old tailpipes on the muffler side of the axle. Just makes it 10 times quicker other than that no cutting or welding.

Re: Flowmaster install

well you don't have to weld, but flowmaster recommends welding the tailpipes to the mufflers to avoid leaks, but like the rest of the people in this thread seem to think, that won't be a problem. I don't have an opinion, just letting you know what Flowmaster recommend. Also, if you look at their site, you can download a video of them installing the flowmasters on like a 2000GT. So that would really help you out.

Re: Flowmaster install
