What do you do to headlights and tailights?

I was wondering what you do to get the headlights and tailights to look realistic. On my Impala, the headlight are a clear lens which glue to a plated bumper. The tailights are just pieces of red plastic.

That's usually all you need! Sometimes a black ring helps, it represents the black rubber seal most cars have.
Have a look at the real car and go from there.

Tamiya also supply a clear red and orange paint so you can paint the clear lens......but i guess you already know that.
