Speaker Install

Someone from work offered me 2 free 8 inch MTX speakers mounted in truck boxes. My first question is are these subs anygood, I don't care if there not going to give me hardcore bass, and second question is what all will I need to do a good install with my factory radio. Oh yeah my truck is a 03 silverado regular cab 4x4 with the factory cd, not the xm or cd changer. Thanks for your help.

Re: Speaker Install

MTX is pretty good, but I'm not sure which speakers you have. 8" isn't going to win any competitions, but it should sound nice in the cab, plus you won't be sending out a loud signal to any would-be thieves. You'll probably have to do some splicing or maybe an adapter from your stock stereo. I heard of people having trouble matching up after market w/ factory and decide to do a clean slate, so I recommendhttp://www.crutchfield.com and see what they suggest. Hope this helps.

Re: Speaker Install

Thanks for the information. This may sound like a stupid question but what will they sound like if I dont run them with an amp? I dont have an amp right now. Anyway, thanks again.

Re: Speaker Install

I wouldn't run any subs, even 8", w/o an amp. They'd have no punch at all. You won't need a very big, or expensive, amp for those 2 anyway.

Okay. That's what I figured but I wasnt sure. Thanks for helping me out. Oh do you have a recommendation for an amp. Obviously I dont won't to spend much money. But I also dont want to invest in crap, just to have to buy something better later.

Re: Speaker Install

Try a MTX 2 channel for now, not sure how many amps you want, though.Try http://www.mtxaudio.com or crutchfield again. I'm not endorsing this brand, choose what you like. I just mention it because you're getting MTX subs.
