94 bonnie over heating and speed problems

My transmission just went on my 94 SSE bonneville so I bought another one and had it installed. The mechanic said something about the catalyic converter being bab because the car seriously overheats. The antifreeze starts to bubble and the Engine manafold(large pipe near the bottom of engine gets super hot almost cherry red.)

Another thing is that when you turn the car on it sounds as if you are pressing the gas, the car is acting like it is already in second gear. I had it checked out at Midas and Strauss and although they placed it on a machine they were second guessing when they said it was probably the computer/brain box. Does anyone have and idea of what it could be?
