Rear brake issue on my '87 Park Ave
The rear brakes make a noisy oscillating rubbing sound when first applied the brakes after the car sits for a while. I almost always set my parking brake. I greased the edges of the brake shoes where they rub on the backing plate (there are well warn grooves in the backing plate) and the noise has diminished somewhat. But it sure sounds like the rear drums are warped. Could that be possible ?
I had replace everything with the front & rear brakes a couple years ago, short of the master cylinder and the hard lines. The star adjuster on the rear driver's side brake just doesn't work automatically. Every time I change the oil (3K miles) I have to readjust that specific rear brake adjuster manually. If not, I find that the car only has 3 wheel brakes. Any idea why that driver's side rear adjuster is not working correctly. TIA. |

Re: Rear brake issue on my '87 Park Ave
I have found that clicking or rubbing in the rear brake area can come from the spring on the parking brake lever pushing against the inside of the drum, tapping on the heads of the lug nuts. I know this is an old thread, just in case someone comes looking.
