1.6 Dizzy On a 1.5 Motor? Cause Problems?

I have a D15B2 and I'm looking for a distributor for it.

The one I have now is a 2pin - 7pin Distributor, like this:

But they say that one is for a 1.6L

The one for a 1.5L is 2pin - 5pin

Like this:

I have no idea why I have that harness, but I don't want to go riggin a 5pin when I have 7wires that need to be connected...so do you think that if I just go ahead and buy the 2pin - 7pin for a 1.6 that it would be ok on my 1.5L? THANKS!!!

i tried doing this too when my dizzy went, spliced all the wires together right, but the extra two are for like a crank angle sensor, and something else that the 1.5l motors dont have, the ecu keeps throwing codes and runs in safe mode. so best bet is to find a real dizzy for your car.

ya, you can use the 1.6 dizzy, but it looks for the mpfi and looks for sensors that you dont have so it wont run near as good as it should

it would be nice if they were the same...would make the MPFI conversion easier

So lets say you have a JDM D15B VTEC. Would you use the dizzy from the D16A6 or use the JDM D15B dizzy?

tried doing what exactly? so you mean just find one that fits? like the 1.6L one? or splice the wires and put the 1.5L Dizzy on.

the funny thing is, this is an HF model, it shouldn't even have that harness in there. I've been having hesitation problems, sputtering, and ocasional slight backfire in full throttle. Also whenever it happends, the tach wigs out and starts "floating and jumping" around... I've done just about everything except replace my dizzy and computer. tps, map, o2 sensors all replaced, wires, cap, rotor, plugs, and my forehead from banging it against the wall so many times. I've been trying to find out what the hell is making my car do this for the last 6 months it seems! I will KILL to make my car run right for once.

Re: 1.6 Dizzy On a 1.5 Motor? Cause Problems?

HFs have multipoint so they need the extra 2 wires!!!

The problem is your ignitor, get a replacement distributor (ignitor is like $180, rebuilt dizzy w/ lifetime warentee is $200)

I think I have a spare MPFI dizzy lying around if you want a cheaper alternative. ($50 + shipping, [email protected])

nah i took my friends 91 si dizzy and tried putting it on my 91 dx, i had to cut the connectors off and splice the wires so i can use the dx connector. it started sputtering and misfiring like crazy.

Re: 1.6 Dizzy On a 1.5 Motor? Cause Problems?

I bet you got the wires wrong because the DX (5-pin) and SI(7-pin) distributors are identicale EXCEPT for the extra sensor (crank angle) in the Si (7-pin) distributors.

Big difference and small difference at the same time... although the DX may not have the extra sensor, the Si is wired up for the sensor and that sensor probably needs a complete circuit in order to function properly... regardless as to whether it's actually being used or not.... but still the question would arise as to how you don't use the sensor, but still complete the circuit.
Too much of a hassle in my opinion.

Actually, I didn't put the dizzy on there in the first place, I had someone else do my swap for me, I was in the process of just changing my distributor due to sputtering and hesitation lately, and was going about it the way I thought to do it (get a dizzy to match the motor) (dx) well I got the thing in the mail and the damn connectors don't match. That was my problem and thx to Dustin I think he might've solved it. Thx for all ur help guys.

i spliced em together using the electrical diagrams from the back of the helms, and had another person double check it to make sure, so i know i wired it correctly, but my ecu kept throwing the codes for the missing sensor.

Re: 1.6 Dizzy On a 1.5 Motor? Cause Problems?

I didn't have a problem doing it. I have an electricle diagram of the dizzy I'll try to find. The reason I suspect messed up wiring, there are 2 white wires.
