Vegetarianism

Good idea or bad? Does it benefit your health or make it worse? Why become a vegetarian?

Re: Vegetarianism

I dont know, this often perplexes me. I can understand why some would because of things like diabetes or another medical issue, or because it was the way they were raised, or even because they feel it is the best for them. However, I can help but think that not eating meat is taking something from your diet like iron and such. Yes, there are supplements, but I'd rather have MEAT! Anyways, I suppose if I had to pick a line of anything like that, I would be a vegan; from what I understand they mainly eat natural things i.e. vegetables, but also some meat products.

Actually vegans are the most strict group of vegetarians. Vegans don't eat animal products at all. Some to the extent that they don't even eat honey. But vegetarians vary sometimes including eggs, milk, and other animal products in thier diet.

Really? what's the group that eats some meat then? It's not vegetarians, it's got some other name.

Re: Vegetarianism

I think really, that it's all a load of crap and the lack of iron and protein that meat gives you will weaken things such as the immune system, metabolism and general condition of the body.

Unless of course you take vitamin tablets, but they aren't as good as red meat.

I will never be a vegitarian, but I do think that many societies eat to much meat. Our bodies don't need as much as we put into it.

I would say that being a vegetarian is a very unhealthy lifestyle. I can understand if you don't eat meat because of a medical condition. However, those that don't because of animal rights are hypocrites. What about those vegetables you're eating, don't they have rights as well? They are alive just like animals. I know it sounds stupid but it is the same logic. Everything that is on the Earth is here for the consumption for something else at some point. There are things like Iron and Proteins and other minerals in different types of meat and very beneficial oils in certain fish. These are things you can't get from vegetables. Most vegans look sick and pale. Sure, you can take supplements to get those things, but they are supplements not replacements. Also, where do they think they get the proteins, iron, and minerals for those supplements? They still get it from meat products, so whether they like it or not they are only fooling themselves and supporting the meat industry.

In fact I saw a news story recently about a child that was taken from his parents because he was malnourished. He had a severe iron deficiency. His parents are vegetarians.

It is a VERY unhealthy lifestyle. Your body needs things found only in meat products. I just get sick of people that think they need to cut carbs, meat, sugars, calories, and cholesterols, from their diet. It is foolish, you don't need to eliminate, you need to balance.

Re: Vegetarianism

If we aren't meant to eat animals, why did God make them of meat?

You make some good points. But I'm not sure I agree with you on this. My friend is a vegetarian and he could easily kick my ass and his older sister is really hot, not sick and pale.

That's not true, all those things can be obtained through chemical means from non-meat products. But its funny how my friends vegan mom stocks her fridge with shitloads of organic products, then eats her fake veggie meat made of genitically engineered soy beans.

Personally, I don't care about those animals, I wouldn't work at a cow-killing factory but it doesn't bother me to eat meat. The biggest argument for me for eating meat is the fact that we would eventually die off because those damn cows would overpopulate the earth (instead of us) and kill the ecosystems.

Once you try good venison you'll not want anything else.

Well, all the ones I've ever seen or known seem to look that way. Then again I am sure not all of them are. Also, if they aren't getting the minerals, iron, and proteins from meat then those supplements are doing very little for you. I have tried those soy meats, and they taste like crap.
