Coil Overs, Struts, Bushings oh my!
Hi Folks. I have a couple basic questions for you. My 89 REX has a sorta squeaky right rear sound coming from what seems to be the strut. I've been told that it's the strut, the strut bushing and even the spring.
To complicate matters, I've seen articles advertising coil over springs that say you can use their brand of coil overs with your factory struts and bushings. Is this true? Since, I'm poor I'd like to of course make the noise go away, enhance the cars handling, and do it all as cheaply as possible. Do any of you have any suggestions for a tight budget REX fan? Thanks again!!! Troy |

Get some Koni's or Tokico's from eBay and then buy Dropzone coilovers. I hear that Dropzone coilovers arent that bad~

Re: Re: Coil Overs, Struts, Bushings oh my!
What is your current springs / struts?
It's hard to fix a sound without hearing it. Start by inspecting the strut for any signs of leaking. Inspect & lube all suspension busings. The only "coil over" that should be used with stock struts is a stock coilover springs. The stock struts were never designed to work at a lowered ride height or with increased springs rates. If your on a budget I'd suggest waiting or saving until you can afford a quality spring/strut or coilover setup. Cheap suspension = shitty ride Fix the noise & install a ST rear sway bar for $125, increased handling without affecting ride quality. Plus the larger rear bar will make a great imporvement once performance springs/struts are installed. |

Very true...You shouldn't go TOO cheap on suspension. Just like, you shouldn't go cheap on brakes or rotors. It's your life~

You guys have some great ideas! I agree. I think I'll save up my money and get a good suspension setup. Now, out of curiosity, how do I lube the factory bushings? Where are they located and should I use any special type of lube? Thanks again folks!!! Troy
