How much is too much?

I was recently looking to buy a 1995 Z28 Camaro. The only problem is it has 120,000 miles on it. It runs beautifully and is very smooth and the price is right ($5,000). I have never bought or owned a car with this many miles on it and am a bit skeptical to buy it. If any one has any info or owns a Z28 with this many miles on it, I would really appreciate your input. Thanks a lot for the help.

Re: How much is too much?

ok, now that i got that out of my system. 120,00 miles isnt that bad, if it runs great, and looks great, and is in great shape, chances are those were highway miles, and those are not bad on your engine. i personally own two camaros, one at 150,000 miles, the other at 160,000 miles, and neither is blowing smoke, neither has any drivetrain problems, (well no, the trans in the IROC took a dump, but that was at 150,000 miles, and i think its more to lack of service by the previous owner, than the fault of the car) the RS has been T-boned, jumped over a curb at 60mph, and the IROC has been driven through a fence by me, and driven dukes of hazard style by the previous owner. and i bought it and drove it 1100 miles home without a hiccup. these cars are very reliable. and so long as its not showing any signs of puking up the engine, i would say its a steal. if its running smooth, and you check it all over, and cant find anything wrong, then there isnt. these cars are very good about letting you know when something is wrong, they dont hide much.

Thanks a lot for the input, I can now buy the car with a lot more confidence. If anyone else has any other advice I would appreciate that too, thanks again.

Re: How much is too much?

see if you can get a service record. try and find out what has already been done to the car, service wise. thats a good inclination as to the condition of the car. while its sittin there look at the coolant, you would be able to tell if it has never been changed. when i changed mine it came out brown. look at the air filter if you can, if its really really nasty than that can give you an idea of the type of person that took care of the car before you. in my experience, with these cars, problems surface themselves fairly well so if there was something seriously wrong with it you'd prolly know it...

Re: How much is too much?

I have had a new Engine put in mine at 150,000 but not because of any drivetrain or engine problems just because I thought it was a good Idea and I had the money but my friend has 95 LT1 vette with 180,000 miles on it never had any internal engine work done to it and it was dynoed at 273 rear wheel horse like 2 weeks ago at SLP in New Jersey, So miles don't bother the engines but I have heard good and bad about the Tranny but have not had a problem myself, So I say buy
