Exclamation EVO III swap???

(Sigh) ALAS, i suspect i have crankwalk!!! I talked to some guys down here who work almost exclusively on DSMs (Direct Performance Ltd, for any of u in the Hampton Roads area, let me know if u are here and want to get in touch with them).Great guys by the way. They told me an excellent solution for the money is an Evo III swap. Can anyone tell me yay/nay on that one, or where to find an Evo III engine cheap?

Re: EVO III swap???

Too much money 99% of the time. You can get american 90-92 6 bolt motors cheap these days (I ran a 100k mile 6 bolt at low 12s for 30k miles, still good when I took it out. 500 bucks). The only time an EVO motor might be worthwhile in my humble opinion is when they leave the 16g and 510cc injectors on it. Other wise the block is the same as ours with a slightly different compression ratio. Check out the page at www.roadraceengineering.com where they list tons of engine suppliers, some should have evo motors.

Can you get me some more info on that? I went to the site but I couldn't find those links. I do like the evo idea, it would be unique, and i don't want any question that the crank will walk again, since i've heard some 6-bolts do it too. Direct Performance told me that the Evo engine was made in Japan out of stronger components than are in the Eclipse engine, and has a few more horses and and a higher compression ratio, which will also require less of out of the turbo. Sounds viable, and I will ask them if the injectors and turbo come with it. I may have to settle for a 1G swap, any thoughts on the 2.3 stroker?

Re: EVO III swap???

You have to realize that you have better chances of winning the lottery than crankwalking a 6 bolt. EVO motors could walk as well, you aren't protecting yourself by spending the extra money. Higher compression ratio is bad, as you cannot run as much boost before you start to knock. 2.3 stroker is another storybook, but it's a fine motor and has the same chance to crankwalk as a 6 bolt. Chance of crankwalk = 0.01% on a 7 bolt, 6 bolt, stroker, and other cars do it as well.
