Talking 3.1 Vs 3.3

Okay I don't want to start an argument but I was wandering wich was faster ,because a guy online told me the 3.1 was at 189hp while the 3.3 only made 160hp.I was wandering if anyone knew the truth, if so I would really like stats .stock vs stock ofcourse.
Thanx

No, that guy is wrong. The 3.1 makes 155hp, not 189. The 3.3 does make 160. It's a pretty close match, but I can't say for sure which is faster. My guess is that if you get the 3.3 with a 5 speed, then you are going to have a faster car because the 3.1 GA GT's only come with auto.

Re: 3.1 Vs 3.3

that is not true my 3.1 is putting out 210 and it doesnt really have much done to it. Just a chip and performance air filter but it is real quick and the 3.3 does have traction control, but it will be real close...good luck

YES IS IS TRUE. I have the numbers sitting right here in front of me.

STOCK 3.1 = 155hp
STOCK 3.3 = 160hp

Be sure to check your facts before making a reply.

Re: 3.1 Vs 3.3

mdb25 is correct with the numbers.

When I had my 1993 grand am, it was very sweet--seemed like a lot of power for 160 hp. I was rather disappointed with the engine performance of the 3.1, but oh well--nice car regardless.

You say 210? Flywheel or wheels?

wow, I have the sudden urge to clear up a few things.

-the 3.1 MPFI engine only made around 135 hp.

-the 3100 SFI engine made 160 in 94-95 (before the MAF sensor was added) and then made 155 hp unitl it was upped to 175 after the heads and intake manifolds were revised to more closely resemble that of the 3400 V6

-The 3300 V6 made 160 hp but was only mated with a 3-speed automatic (th125, and th125-c, depending on the year) No 5-speed was ever offered on the 3300 or any GM FWD V6 since the 3.1 and 2.8 MPFI engines.

IN a race from a stop, the 3100 would most definately beat the 3300 because of its better transmission gear (the 3-speeds first gear is extremely tall for obvious reasons) But from highway speeds , a 3300 should be able to hang with a 3100 fairly well. I should know I own one of each
