Question Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird?

What one should I get a Camaro or a Firebird?
If you haven't noticed I'm more of a GTO guy, but I have always been interested in the Camaro and Firebird, I don't know much about them so I'd like your opinion on which is the better choice.
What is the difference between the Camaro and Firebird also?
I like the 1st gen. camaros and Firebirds.

Re: Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird?

well as far as first gen F-bodies, they are quite different, that was back when they were different car companies. the camaro back then had the 302, the firebird didnt, if i was getting a first gen, i would definately find a 302 equipped Z28. the camaro also had access to the 327, 350, 396, and 427 many diff options in those engines. to the best of my knowledge the firebird had the 350, 400, and 455. could be wrong on that though. but i also have to throw out, your asking the camaro forum, which is better between the two, do you doubt the outcome???? later years of the two started getting more and more alike, but if your interested in the first gen, you would have to do your research. the pontiac engines back then as you probly know, being a goat man, had much larger main journals, which create more friction, and cause more power losses. so for higher widing engine plans, the chevy 302 is the choice, or even a 327 or 350. personally i would find a 302 or 427 camaro, but thats just me.

Early 2nd Gen 70-73 were verry different, Basicly, The Firebird had completely different engines even the 350 was a "Wide block" unlike the camaros regular 90* 350, The Firebird had a more plush interior more luxury oriented (but with todays standars they arent too different)

Bottom line

Camaro- MUCH easyer to find parts and modify engine wise, Looks AWESOME
Firebird- Great suspension, looks AWESOME

Re: Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird?

Thanks for the information I think the ability to find the parts is a very important factor I didn't even consider.

Hey look at that you got the same quote as me, where'd you get it from?,
I got my quote from this book called Fifty years of the Corvette.
Youve been at AF longer so if you want I'll get rid of the quote, because you most likely had it longer. post

Re: Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird?

Restored a firebird trans am..... Go with a camaro.... The only firebird that looks better than any camaro is the trans am b/c of the shaker hood, vents, flares etc.... PARTS though. These guys know what they're talking about. It took me forever to find a torque convertor when i replaced the 3rd transmission in the car... The car was worthless at 100k, and mind as well have been one of them new ones they're putting on the market now. Go with a Camaro. I've got one, and I'll never go back....

Re: Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird?

tri power, was an old school carb setup, three two barrel carbs in a row on the intake. usually drives the center two barrels for gas mileage, stomp it, and the other two open up giving you six barrels to breath through, kinda a step between a four barrel and dual quads.
