Got a lots of questions about the rx7 2nd, 3rd generation

Im going to buy either rx7 fc, Fd.
I heard the biggest prob with the rx7 were the engine rebuilding.
Is the rebuilding cost same with fc and fd?
And if there is a way i would like to swap with any kind of engine.
what is the easiest engine to swap in to the both rx7s?
and does Rx7 take up lots of gas? I dun think it does but lots of people say it does.. ne wayz thank you in advance

Re: Got a lots of questions about the rx7 2nd, 3rd generation

any turbo will guzzle your gas, as in like 12-14 mpg, non turbo will get you 19-21 mpg probably, you could put a 20B engine in either of them and it would be an even more amazing car than it already is, if you are gonna do an engine swap I'd say get the FC cuz it will save you money, but if you are keeping the engine in the car then maybe go with the FD cuz it has a little more potential, rebuilds are probably anywhere between $1,200 and $1,800 for both models I'd expect then a couple hundred dollars more if you wanted to port it aswell(good idea) porting usually gives about a 15% increae in power.

just don't put a piston engine in it or you'll be hunted down and shot on site... I'm serious...

wow, I kinda doubt it, if it is then it probably isn't worth the time of doing the work because its probably just like new seals or something

A 20b swap will cost you around $35,000 for everything. (Motor - subframe - misc.parts - labor)

Take a look around rx7club.com or nopistons.com

Re: Got a lots of questions about the rx7 2nd, 3rd generation

ok I'm thinking your a just a little off saying $35,000...

I would say its in the mid 20k range though, so as I see it, its hardly worth the money unless your filthy rich... in that case PM me and you can send me some money to rebuild/port my engine, I mean $1,900 has to be pocket change for someone that swaps in a 20b right? haha

Show me one person who has a *good 20b swap, that paid under 30k w/motor, aftmkt ems, tuning, and didn't do any of the welding themselves.

Half of this forum is hearsay, second hand knowledge, and basically people who have no clue about Rotarys. This doesn't surprise me any.

A word of advice to new RX-7 owners and aspiring owners, take everything you read on this forum with a grain of salt.

So far you've got 3 people that are disagreeing with you...I'm not saying your comment is incorrect, but please back it up with strong evidence that multiple people have payed over $30,000 before you make any accusations about how little people here know.

Also, just because AeroE seems to be new to RX7's and is asking questions about them does not mean he's new to cars. Even if he was, you were at some point as well so there's no need to bash him about it.

20B Swap for FD3S RX-7

You can knock off the items I have in BOLD which will reduce the price by about 12k. That will leave you with a total of around $25,000 w/out labor. And labor will cost you an arm and a leg.

Pettitracing.com - Does the swap/provides parts
SRmotorsports.com - Provides parts
MVA Motorsports - Does the swap/provides parts

Engine Core: 2400.00
Rebuilt engine (3mm apex seals, clearance, seals, porting, pinning, etc): 5000.00

Custom Downpipe (4"): 275.00
Custom Midpipe with resonators (4"): 350.00
Custom Exhaust Muffler (4"): 450.00
Misc Clamps / Gaskets: 50.00
Gauges: FPR, BOOST, EGT, WATER TEMP, + PODS: 720.00
. . . . . . . . There are still many things I have not included. But this gives you the basic idea. I have calculated from the amounts above to: $37,472.00

Keep in mind that $37,472.00 does not include labor for installation (HUGE!), tuning, dyno time, fabrication, etc.

The price $37,472.00 also is based off non-pettit items, and purchasing a majority of these items individually like people who try to do it themselves would. - Red-Rx7

Thank you, that's exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully this will be a help to anyone looking to do the swap.

Re: Got a lots of questions about the rx7 2nd, 3rd generation

yea or you could buy the parts cheaper, just because you found the parts at the prices you listed doesn't mean you can't get them cheaper, I'm willing to bet I could find most of those parts cheaper, but I'm not gonna waste my time looking into a 20b swap that I'll never do just to prove you wrong, you come on here screaming like your somebody important, ok so petit racing charges $37k for the swap, I bet there are all kinds of shops that do the swap that you don't even know about, and all kinds of places to get parts cheaper that you have never even looked... now please if you love nopistons and rx7club so much stay there, I'm a member at those 2 places too and they are great sites, but seriously don't be such a fagget, your no god of cars and your not all knowing about 20b swaps so stop yelling at people like your something special and your oh so great

Re: Got a lots of questions about the rx7 2nd, 3rd generation

I've never read of this going that extreme in price. Most I heard was 20k. IMO I think the 20B is overrated (Yes I said that!). Sure there is more power potential with that extra rotor, but you certainly can get gobs of power out of a well built 13B 2 rotor and do it a lot cheaper. If you really must do a 20B engine I'd say do it in an FC. You can typically find one of these cars from 750-4000 bux.
