R-12?

today my friend unbolted a A/C hose thinking it had no pressure in it, and r-12 sprayed all in his face, for a second. can this blind him?

im positive it was r-12 because A. the truck was from 1985 and B. my teacher said he broke the law by releasing it b/c its environmentally unsafe

oh, and my teacher also said that if there was alot of free-on in it that it could have frozen his eyeball, which is kind of scary. but seeing the whole thing happen was by far the funniest thing ive ever seen.

R-134A can freeze an eye ball too. It is also illegal to release into the atmosphere. Thats why it is required to recover refrigerant from a system when replacing or repairing. He can suffer a huge fine if reported. (I guess some nerd in Washington thinks your refrigerant causes holes in the atmosphere like exhaust from a car burning oil. My only question is that since this stuff is heavier then air how does it get up there??)

its doesnt matter if its r-12 or 134a, its still "illegal" to release both into the air. but its not like a swat team is gonna come bust your door down and arrest you for it.

It's also illlegal to dump used anti freeze over the fence into your neighbors yard.........If no one knows, no one seems to care.

I do know that the compressor oil in a R-134A system will make you go blind.
