Exclamation Anyone here had a flywheel explode?

My buddy in Cal was telling me of his adventures in racing and he told me of this one guy was driving a foxbody and his flywheel exploded cutting up his bellhousing and severing his right foot! Any of you guys experience this before?

That's why I would buy a heavy duty scatter shield.

Wouldnt it take a very powerful motor and a very good clutch for the FLYWHEEL to explode? Or can that happen on regular cars.....like mine....

this can happen with a stock wheel, and some others. i believe it's from either spinning too high or too much power.

again, i'm no expert, so dont' hold me to this.

It's could happen on a stock car but the chances are next to impossible. It really only happens on high HP/ high RPM engines and even then very very rare!!!! But that is why you need SFI approved tranny blowshields when you get to certain speed levels. The same thing can happen with an automatic also guys.
