GM 3800 SC tech question... ...

Hey to all from a new user. My apology if this is answered elsewhere in the forums, I need a sorta quick answer, and didn't take the time to look much... No local auto techs seem to know this for sure. The car: '95 Riviera 3800 SC. Not sure if series I or II. Can this engine be 'rigged' to run temporarily with the supercharger disabled? Reason is I have opportunity to pick one up for a song (garaged, mint) from a family member out of my state. Car is running, but has noise that a shop told my cousin was supercharger bearings going out. ( Has aprox 90k) Will be cost prohibitive to do it any other way than to try to fly there, do some minimal work on it, and try to drive it back.--------------Also curious if that supercharger is serviceable once back home with it, or am I looking at replacement as only option. I'm an excellant mechanic, just no familiarity with forced induction components. I regularly 'fix' things that are considered unfixable by most average mechanics.----Thanks in advance for any opinions!!!-----Ed Y. in Texas

the SC could be on a seperate belt, try removing that but if the SC is pumping air into the intake it might block the air flow if it isn't running.

Some SC make noise when there functioning, usually a whining sound.

Whipple SC operate quietly, uuhhh. I'm out of ideas.

No, if you take the supercharger off you will have to change the upper intake. Probably best that you just have it shipped to you, or rebuild yours and drive a rental.
