where does it go?
I installed a cone air filter with an adapter plate on my p10 today. One question: I removed the airbox, and it has this little sensor that screws into the side of the box. What is it for, and where does it need to go? It seems to run the same with it connected or disconnected, so I am confused. I thought it might be intake air temp or something, but nothing is different when I unplug the harness, so what do I do? I figured it'd be best to put it in front of the filter in the center, but somebody else has to have dealt with this, so please hook me up with the info!!!!!!
Thanks,

Do you have a closed top cone filter? If yeah, you can drill a hole and out the sensor in the top, otherwise, I think you can just kinda strap it near the filter.

Go here to see what I did with mine. Same idea that Swonder67 had stated.

I appreciate the help, unfortunately my filter is one of those that has the doughnut type metal piece with more filter media in the center, so there's nothing to mount it to. I guess I'll have to tape the wire so the sensor hangs in front of the filter.
Thanks for the help

about how much does one of those filter setups cost, and how much does it help?

Well, it goes for about $45. It's a metal plate and the filter, which is a k&n reusable type. As for hp gains, it feels like maybe there's a little difference, but that may just be me rationalizing buying the thing! It sounds cool at WOT, though. Worth the money to me, and no driveability problems so far...

I have replaced the standard filter on my P10 with a Pipercross foam cone filter and it has made huge gains. Im talking about 10% hp improvement. I have had cam work though which may have caused this.
Also I never had that sensor wire you talk of. |

It's probably one of those USA only emissions things, so I wouldn't be concerned about not having it. Mine doesn't seem to make much difference, since it works fine with the wire dangling in front of the filter.

What was that......?
My... My ..car... My car is slow! I know but cheer up you have more access to things that make it go quicker. Of course we all know it will never be quite as fast a NZ Primera, but then what is?

It made my engine more willing to take rpm over 5000 and it made my car go longer on a liter gas! So I don't complain!

ok- i'm glad this issue has come up-
i have had one of those cone air filters (the design i had was the one with the metal donut on top and more filter media in the middle in the shape of a cone) and this is what i've found... say i'm idle.... and about to make a left turn at an intersection (i'm listing this scenario because it's where this cone air filter can be THE MOST DANGEROUS THING YOU CAN PUT ON YOUR CAR!!!!!... ) so sitting at the light with the filter in- i press on the gas to get the car moving- however- the car doesn't go for a little bit and then it catches on and finally runs... i tried the same thing WITHOUT the filter to make sure i didn't screw up anything when i installed it and there was NO HESITATION... (this is on an auto transmission, however- the only difference in testing was the factory filter vs the cone filter (same type of weather -air temp, no rain, etc...) ) my theory is that when u drop in your air filter, you are now sucking in more air, which is what it's supposed to do, but this air is not the air that the engine needs... the engine needs cool air, not hot air that has been heated up by hanging around the engine while you've been sitting there at idle. soooooooooooooooo- when u step on the gas in the beginning- the filter sucks up the hot air (for those of you who weren't chemistry majors in college- the hotter the air - the more diluted the oxygen molecules per cubic foot of air, hence- when you get a COLD AIR INTAKE- you are relying on the fact that cooler air will have more concentrated oxygen molecules per cubic foot). ANYONE HAVE SIMILAR EXPERIENCES WITH YOUR CONE AIR INTAKE?? i've since removed mine and put back my stock filter - and on the last tank of gas with a lot of highway miles - i reached 300 miles on one tank. well- i also removed the bpt valve from the engine bay because i wanted to clean it (and i still have no idea how to clean it) and i haven't put it back on yet. ok... enough jibber jabber on my part- your turn. c.

You may be right about the hesitation thing, but it's been really cold since I installed mine, so I haven't had that problem. Thanks for the tip, and I'll be interested to see if mine does that when the outside temp warms back up above freezing...
Thanks,
