Re: supercharge or turbo

technically for an automatic, a supercharger would be more appropriate, due to the automatic transmission's torque advantage, it would be able to put to use the wide powerband of a supercharged engine...
however a 1996 Jetta 2.0 is one of the slowest cars VW has made in the past 25 years... just get a different car.

The major Drawback to a supercharger, is that it robs you of about 30 hp to every 100 it gives you. however, with an automatic, it is better. There is no lag, which autos find hard to deal with, and it is a much more consistant boost through the powerband.

For the turbo route, a stick is best. The Manual allows you to preload for a launch, that means that your engine is already revved to a certain point that allows the engine to already be producing hot exhaust gasses before you take off, this means the turbo will spool up much faster than it would with an automatic starting from idle. next, turbos only take about 5 - 10 hp to run for every 100 they give you, much more efficient because your engine is already producing exhaust gas.

I posted just a minute ago in your other topic on exhausts requests.

The thing is friend and i have advised other 2.0 owners is too just save up and get another VW or another car. The automatic 2.0 is the worst VW in performance and you are extremely limited to what you can do. I know you want to go fast and look good, but save up and get a better car. I mean no disrespect, but theres a reason why they call it the 2.slo. I do aplogize, for not giving any info. contributing to your efforts, but for real. Save up and get another VW whether a 1.8t or V6 and redouble your efforts then.
