my 2 gots some problems....help!!!

i had trouble last night. let me go right to the problem. if you take the one of the vacuum hoses off the intake pipe the car will idle fine, but when you give it gas, it turns off. but if you gas it and move the "intake opening", it'll rev because more air is going into the engine and moving the "intake valve" fools the ECU to think the engine is getting enough air. MORE GAS THAN AIR.

it sounds like it want to turn off.

i thought it might be because the air mass sensor wirings got wet. ??? or maybe because its low on oil pressure.

oh yeah, i removed the alarm. maybe i missed some wires?? because there were two wires left, you can see the two wires behind the rug by your pedals not connected to anything. they are red and black..yes..i know.. ground and +..

I NEED SOME HELP...!!!!

OH YEAH...before this happen. i installed an aftermarket BOV. Then, when you rev it to about 5k, and let go off the gas, the engine turns off or sounds like it wants to turn off.

i dont know if that helps though

Ok, a bit more info please.
I assume its a MK2 Turbo?

Have you toped up the oil? running low oil pressure is simply bad for it no matter what, and its possible the ECU is shutting the car off.

Did you reconnect the Vacum hose you removed? this sounds like the obvious cause of the problem.

Did the alarm have an ignition cut out on it?

And how did the MAF sensor get wet? and did anything else get wet at the same time.

It sounds most like you've got a vacum hose messed up somewhere, either from installing the BOV or from fiddling with things you shouldn't have been. It either causing a lose of Manifold vacum (starving the engine of AIR) or not allowing the Wastegate to close meaning the Turbo isn't building up boost and the engine is flooding with to much fuel.

yes...i have a turbo. about the oil. i recently bought the car and the prev. owner said he just changed the oil. i trusted him. but when the car broke down, i measured the oil and i think it was empty...(too dark). so i added more oil. now, its about full.

vacuum hoses. im pretty sure all my vacuum hoses are in where they should be. i put the OE BOV back and hoses. i even put my OE intake back. the best of my knowledge, hoses are fine.

the alarm: it was an aftermarket. i pretty much took everything out coming from the brain of the alarm and connected wires that were cut. the wierd thing is....i was left with the two pos. and neg. wires coming from i dont know where. it looks like they were there for a purpose. you see, i live in a small town, no mkII here and no manuals either, so i have noone to refer to.

now Air Mass Sensor: well, stupid me. when i was installing the kn intake, i unscrewed the sensor plug instead of undoing by removing the wire clip. so when i took the plug of the sensor, the wires came with it and some broke. so i took the top off, it was sealed with silicon, to sauder..souder..soder..(cant spell) them. rainy here so the water manage to get into the wires because i didnt reseal the top.

so thats that.. i know it was my fault. ill have my hands on some repair manuals maybe tomorrow so..we'll see what happens.

thanks moppie for replying.

Hey skittles196

Dude you have a couple of probs!!

Ok first things first, BUY a NEW AFM, It's liable to be expensive but it has to be done, It's one of those things that is often learned the $ way and don't worry your not the first MR2 owner to do so!! I have heard LOT'S of storys where that happens, I myself did the same thing but luckly I didn't take it all the way off and clicked in time!!

Oh and are we talking US spec MR2 or J-spec?

2nd thing to do AFTER you have replaced the AFM is to put the STOCK BOV back on IF you still have it and see weather this fix's the stalling prob, my guess is it will!!

Again it's a common thing with MR2's as the car use's the air that the bov vent's back into the intake tube to adjust the air fuel mixture or something, can't remeber the exact technical terms etc. A day before I got my bov that vents out for the nice loud psshhhh I took of the tube that go's from the stock bov to the intake tube and blocked of the hole in the intake tube to see if it would work, it made a HUGE pssshhhh when I changed gears BUT if I was coming to a stop the idle would drop down an stall the car, some guys can't even start there 2's with that done!! BUT with my aftermarket one I haven't had any probs, theres a few things that have to be capped of etc, you can ask and search on:

http://board.mr2faq.com/

And you will DEFINITLY find ALL your answers

Good luck!!

Cheers

Arrow about the BOV

whenever u have a BOV on a MR2 T u want to make sure that it still routes back into the intake system, B4 THE TURBO, this will keep your engine alive, when people route the air coming out of the BOV into the atmosphere, they are retarded, this puts METERED air into the unknown, this means that there is less air in the intake system then what the MAF/ECU thinks, this means it can get so rich when u rev it, it will kill it

You are going to need a new MAF.

I would also check to make sure you are 100% sure of the factory BOV is installed correctly.
