Any of you Activate Vtec with a Tach?
i'm doing this for now, till i get a VAFC, but i was wondering if any of you tried using an aftermarket tach with shift light to activate it? What i'm using is a d16y8 engine with pm6 ECU in a 90 CRX. Does it suck horribly? or what, post your experience.

Re: Any of you Activate Vtec with a Tach?
I dont really understand what your saying. Do you like set the aftermarket tach to say 4,500 rpm and when u go over that, that is when vtec kicks in?

it would be the same as using the external shift light with rpm plugs....i wouldnt say it sucks....works better than no vtec

Re: Any of you Activate Vtec with a Tach?
You do realise that the engine designers at Honda drew onan infinitely greater knowledge of the characteristics of VTEC to come up with the change over point don't you? The only reason you'd change it is if you went massivly different cams etc. Otherwise it's just stupid although I do understand that a lot of ricers like the sound coming in earlier and convince themselves that the car is making more power.

i wouldn't do that.....i'm setting it to kick in at 5200. I can't use the "bloody ECU" in because i would have to convert to obd2, i rather stay obd0.

Re: Any of you Activate Vtec with a Tach?
So why did you even start this thread in the first place?
Those that know say go to OBD1, but you want to do it your way. Waste of time |

It wasnt an attitude, it was a opinion. Are we all not allowed an opinion? You prefer show before go, I prefer go before show. If you do a swap right, you will gain more out of it. Okay, say you say cost is a big factor. If you were to pickup a RPM activated switch, and a set of pills, your knocking on $100. That $100 could be put towards a P28 ECU. Then, you seem to know a little bit about what you are doing. Hop on the forums, and read up on how easy it is to convert to OBDI. Or, save your lunch money for two weeks, and buy a conversion harness for $125. Ouch, too much money is spent on trying to make your car, something you are using probably every day, to run correctly. Good luck with that body kit though. |
