In anticipation for spring...

Well, its that time of year again. I good day consists of no snow and a temp that gets above 32 degrees. I cant wait for spring! But, there is nothing I can do about it... I can just sit and wait. During this waiting process, I have been thinking about what it is I should do next on my car once Spring does decide to show its pretty face. I have just the basic upgrades done, they can be seen at the following website....

http://www.geocities.com/posseac/membersken.html

I would like something that would give me a little more go-go without a whole lot of cash-flow. Any ideas? This is my every day driver that gets me to and from every day, so nothing too extreame. I am open to all ideas.

Thanks!

Re: In anticipation for spring...

Well, you already have I/H/E so most of the things you buy after this to produce power are going to be expensive. How much money are you looking to spend here? I'm assuming you won't be wanting to do an engine swap, nitrous, or turbo.

Here's some ideas:

Competition Valve Job
Cylinder Head Deburred
Deshrouded & Polished Combustion Chambers
Radiused Blend Seats
Bowl Port & Polish
1 Inch Gasket Match Port & Polish

Right there will cost you about $800 in labor only, but it is cheaper than buying a turbo kit =/ Not sure how much power you'll gain, though.

Im thinking like $400

I was thinking about some things such as new throttle body (bored), new fuel rail with injectors, new clutch. Any of these a good idea. Thanks for the suggestions by the way. And yes, I would like to stay away from tuirbo, motor swap, NOS.

Re: In anticipation for spring...

I think the only problem is that even with a new fuel rail and injectors, without forced induction, I don't think those will make much of a difference. Same thing for a bored throttle body, without someway to get more air into it, it won't provide a very good gain. Not 100% sure, however, but that seems logical to me.

Might want to consult someone who has just done those and nothing else, they may be able to tell you how much of a difference they made.

Re: In anticipation for spring...

nitrous is pretty much the only option left. u could always get a clutch, flywheel, and short shifter. but for the money they dont compare to nitrous.

OK, say I was thinking about going down the Nitrous road. Remember, I dont have my motor built or anything. I dont want to do anything that would put my motor in jeopardy of living a long and healthy life (well over 180k miles). Will this strain my motor in any way? I would prolly only want to do a small amount. What would be better, liquid or dry? I know the dry just goes on intake and would be easier to install. Alos, where would I go to get something like a dry nos tank refilled? The main thing is, I dont want to harm my engine, I only have 80k on it now, and it still runs as well as the day I got it. I want to keep it that way. Would this be a smart move?

Re: In anticipation for spring...

Just a clarification or 2.
1: sorry 2 nitpick, but nitrous is the stuph, NOS is a brand
2: it doesn't kill any stock engine in a short amount of time. If used properly, many engines can handle it. Any increase in hp through forced induction or nitrous puts more strain on your motor, but if done properly and safely, and if you take good care of your car, many cars have internals that can handle the extra stress. Personally, I would take a turbo or supercharger anyday over nitrous. Somebody earlier on mentioned that it would be cheaper. Initially this may be true. But keep in mind that you must constantly refill the bottle. On top of that, nitrous is a pain, because it is not always available to your engine. A turbo's power is always there. Nitrous, you have to crank open the bottle or get an automatic relay to crack it open, but then it is only there until the bottle runs out. Personally, I just think the turbo is the way to go if you want the extra hp.

NO2 (nitrous) is not meant for stock engines, sorry. I wouldn't put it on my daily driver, especially with a stock engine. NO2 basically allows more air and fuel into the cylinder, which changes the compression ratio. A stock engine is designed and engineered to handle a certain amount of compression. When you increase that amount, the parts begin to wear. The more you "spray" the Nitrous, the more likely you are to damage your engine. The only time I've ever seen nitrous used in a real world situation (that is, outside of the "Fast and Furious" universe) is at the racetrack. On cars built to race. Not "grocery-getter" daily driver vehicles. These are the kind of cars you race on saturday and work on sunday-friday. They're only driven a quarter mile at a time.

I wouldn't suggest the NO2 unless you get a built engine.

You are correct, I only meant to point out that it is not an instant death to all stock engines. My personal experience with it is limited as well. As well, I don't think I would ever put it in my cars. But I do not that not all daily drivers are that weak. My daily driver, a 96 3000gt vr4, obviously is a diffent engine then his, but I know of plenty of people running nitrous in thier stock vr4 engines. As well, I have seen quite a few 400-550 hp daily drivers, and read of 900hp daily driven supras and such. I know that these daily drivers are obviously not all stock engines and internals. And in retrospect, I would agree that nitrous is not the best thing for his engine. Yet amidst all this rambling, I simply meant to point out that I don't believe nitrious is deathly hazardous to all stock engines. Sorry, I guess I could have stated that better, tho.

hey woahna, i saw that you have the true power pulleys on your car. When you got those on, did you get much of a boost in hp? Also how much did it cost?
