skyline love

This place is in some serious need of love. I just started reading some of the stuff in this forum. Damn you guys really like to flame each other a lot in here. How bout in this thread we just talk about how much skylines kick ass. I myself am a skyline owner and I am on my third one. If anyone has any questions (about anything, no matter how dumb they may seem or trivial they may be) feel free to ask away. Introductions:
I'm Mike, I live in Okinawa Japan and I'm in the USAF. When I first got here I owned a GTR for a period of 14 days. I got the car for 3000 and sold it for 4500 2 weeks later. The car was a pile of crap and needed a lot of work. It was a black 1991 GTR. My second skyline (january 2003) was an R33. 1995 GTS. 4 door. what a pile of crap too. good reliable family car, but entirely boring to drive. My new skyline (which I got just 2 weeks ago Jan 20th 2004) is a 1993 R32 GTS-t. At first I was confused because I thought that there were only R33s in 1993, but I soon learned that R32 GTS-ts were produced a few months into 1993. So I have the absolute last generation R32 GTS-t. It's a 2 door, black, 5 speed. It's pretty damn fun to drive. So.... who are you?

Re: skyline love

i'm a newbie here too. since my only experinces with sky lines are in gt3, and reading some of the threads here, i find alot of people that they are the be all end all of cars (no disrespect at all, you find the same kind of thing with any car make, be it domestic or european.). anyway, being very ignorant on this car, whats the top of the line model, it's horsepower ratings, and since there not sold to the public here in the U.S., how much approx. would one cost here?

Re: skyline love

Beautiful cars. Well designed and alot of petential. To bad they were never imported to North America. It would be great to see one up close and in person. What do you do in the USAF?? Are you a pilot? Tellme you fly an F-16C Falcon. I love those things. I had a chance to fly in one a couple years back. I managed to stay awyake for a 9G turn. I was amazed. Started to get tunnel vision tho

Re: skyline love

The top of the line production model is the GTR. there are some other rare models such as the 400R, but they are VERY rare. A GTR stock has between 250-300 ish horsepower (roughly) though the RB26DETT (the GTR engine) has a lot of potential. Importing is stupid expensive. i've read (on about every thread in this forum, now to include this one) that importing thru motorex costs between 16-25K. This is after the cost of the car itself. I live on a little island south of japan, and skylines are cheap here. Here are average costs in Okinawa:
GTRs
R32 6-12K
R33 9-25K
R34 30-45K+
GTS-t (GTS25t where applicable)
R32 $500-5K
R33 3-12K
R34 GTT $22,000+

Re: skyline love

i'd almost say sleeper, very clean looking ride. know any reasons why there not imported to the U.S.? it seems they always do that here, keep the good ones out, the 240 horse U.S. M3 vs. 333 european, and the Evo being examples that have been recently rectified. have any ideas when if ever the skyline will make to these shores.

Re: skyline love

A major reason the most recent(R32-34) Skylines never made it to the US was because of the high cost of creating a left hand drive version. The turbos would have to be repositioned, etc. Emissions was another issue.

The next GT-R will be sold in the US, according to CEO Ghosn. Since it will be a global car, it will be easier to make sure it can be sold in the US. Look for it in late 2007 as a 2008 model.

R32 and R33 GTR's were rated by Nissan at 280ps or 275hp. They were in fact closer to 300.
R34 is rated also at 280ps but is actually closer to 320hp

GTS-t (GTS25t where applicable)
The R32 GTS-t is a 2.0 litre turbo.
R33 GTS25-t is a 2.5 litre turbo. Nissan NEVER released a R33 GTS-t. It was released as a GTS25-t and is badged that way.

from what i've heard (in otherwords please don't critique my input because i know it's 90% rumors) The R32, R33 and R34's are not in the US because of impact safety standards among other things. Emissions was not a big issue on the RB20E, RB20DET, RB25DE, RB25DET. The RB26DETT (GTR) I believe had some problems. I'm just saying this because I've seen several cars in the states with RB20's etc. that pass emissions just fine. chech this car out for example. http://members.cardomain.com/kenzman9076
That's a SICK ass Z.
I think the 35 version of the skylines are now designated as V35 or something other than R3X. I think this is because the engines are no longer inline 6 but rather, you guessed it, V6's. The V35 GTR will be in the states, but it has turned into basicly a mild power planted Infinity. The skyline seems to be going more yuppy than muscle. Here's how to read engine types for most skylines:
RB this is a designator given to all inline 6 skyline engines
20, 25 or 26 means 2, 2.5 and 2.6 litres
E the most basic designator. Electronic fuel injection
D Dual overhead cams
T Turbo
T twin turbo
so just mix and match. not all possible combinations exist though
RB20E (bottom of the line)
RB20DE
RB20DET (my engine :-)
RB25DE (I don't think there are any RB25E's, 2.5L are all DOHC)
RB25DET
The 2.6 came one way
RB26DETT (GTR, Godzilla, the dream... etc.)
All of these engines except for the RB20E are very workable. The poor SOHC obviously is not worth doing anything to.

Like I said though, I'll be the first to tell you that I don't know everything about skylines. I do however have more experience with them than most of the people in these forums because I actually live with them in my world. For example, there are (1 sec) 9 skylines sitting in my parking lot right now. I'm just saying probably nobody has the daily exposure to the skyline lifestyle than me as far as people in this forum goes.

Here's a few good skyline links: (minimum BS, Max actual information)
rb20det.com
http://www.auto.vl.ru/catalog_eng/nissan/skyline/ (this is SO informative)

Re: skyline love

I don't think there are any R32 GTS25t's either. so that makes no R33 GTS-t's and no R32 GTS25t's. Correct?

Re: skyline love

Cheers no I don't.

Actually the bottom end of the Skyline range since the R32 production started is the GXi which uses a CA18 or 1.8 litre 4 cylinder.

Suposedly in the last year of production on the R32 a few GTS-t's were released with the the RB25DEt motor in it. Now I've never been able to confirm this by the vin plate but I know of someone who has one here in NZ so I am looking for him again so I can look at the vin plate. If it does well and truely exist it would be a rare as car and worth quite a bit as a collectors item.

Re: skyline love

yeah but those GXi's don't count as real skylines in my mind :-P I had the great, once in a lifetime experience of driving my friends GXi. What a pile of crap. My 85 Civic would own that thing. This was a special edition GXi though. In a competition for the "lowest" of the "low end" skylines, this car was running on 3 almost rotted out spark plug wires and one burnt to a crisp. yeah that's right baby.. the new bottom of the line champion, the 3 cyl skyline. Undisputed champion of the crap of the crop award. This model gives you all the weight of a 4 door and all the power of a 3 banger. SO ANYWAY.... back to the TOPIC. (Please)

If anyone has any questions (about anything, no matter how dumb they may seem or trivial they may be) feel free to ask away.
Who are you and how are you doin? (new people PLEASE)

My dad once told me this (and it's very helpful in forums)

you are walking down the sidewalk and you see a big huge pile of dog crap right in your way.

do you yell at the pile of crap and say's "you are a pile of crap you... you... pile of crap."

do you kick it in the grass and you end up getting your shoe all messed up?

I'd say just walk around it.
