Hello Everyone:
I have 96 Nissan Maxima V6 3.0 and had 135,000 miles on it. I am using gasoline having Octane 87 as a fuel. Last month its engine light comes on. I took it to the mechanic, on the basis of code analysis, he replaced its knock sensor and charged me about $300. After about 570 miles its engine light comes on again. Then I again took it to the mechanic second time, he found the codes related to oxygen sensors. He cleared the codes from the computer and gave me fuel improver and asked me to use 91 octane gasoline. Now long story short, after about 570 miles, today its engine light again comes on. Can anyone will suggest me what should I do about it? Should I replace the expensive oxygen sensors? or Is there a way around it? Is it okay if I get this problem fixed after driving 1500-2000 miles? Thank you all in advance for the help, Jagmeet |

Re: Check Engine Light On
02 sensors aren't cheap, i'd say have them(or it) replaced and then stop using cheap gas. your owners manual states that your car requires 91 octane.

you can keep driving with them bad but you will probably get very poor gas mileage. In the end it would probably just make more sense to replace them and do like BP2K2Max said and run at least 91 like your manual recommends going forward
The other thing to keep in mind is you can't completely blame this on the gas you have been running in the past. Maximas are notorius for bad O2 sensors, just something I think all Max owners accept . |
