97 Jetta 2.0 oil pressure warning

I have a 97 Jetta 2.0 and the oil pressure waring light and buzzer go off once or twice a week. I just recently changed both sensors and it is still happening. I have lots of oil. Anyone have a suggestion as to what could be causing this?

Install a mechanical gauge and check the engine oil pressure and compare to specs. This will show you if you have an elec. problem or an engine problem. Make your checks with the engine hot.

Re: 97 Jetta 2.0 oil pressure warning

Thanks for the advice. The specs say 25 foot pounds at 2000 rpm and my engine was showing 20 or 21. Is this enough of a difference to cause the sensors to trip?

Your specs probably said min. 25PSI. 20 to21 PSI is below spec. I hate to tell you this, but I think you have engine trouble.

I would try it. Other than a worn pump your looking at bearing problems. At least the pump can be replaced with the engine in the car.
