Re: Blow off vavle questions
here's one of the front mount intercoolers for a a4> http://www.goapr.com/Audi/products/i...oler_fmic.html and I'm just asking, but why do you want a blowoff valve, Why not just go with a DV, that's what audi designed?

Re: Blow off vavle questions
Dont know who told you blow off vavles are bad but their not. BOV release air so it dosnt flow backwards when you let off the gas. If you dont have a BOV then ever time you let off the gas air is going backwards and stoping your your turbo from spining (not really great for your turbo). This causes a delay (lag) when you get back on the gas because your turbo has to spin back up. So no, BOVs are not bad infact every turbo car should have one. I wound suggest you pick one up.

Re: Blow off vavle questions
a DV is a diverter valve, I maybe should have clarified that. It works similar to a blowoff valve, i.e letting backed up air out of the turbo lines, but instead of putting the air out to the outside, it redirects it so it runs throught the turbo again later (as if the turbo were just drawing in the air from the airbox). With the control modules in audi's, they don't handle blowoff valves very well because the engine thinks that the air is still going through the engine but instead, that air is lost so it screws up the air/fuel mixture. I have heard of getting the car remapped to handle BOV's, but diverter valves do about the same thing, it is just a different place that it puts the air.
Also, when you have a car w/ a DV, you lose a lot of the noise that is sometimes wanted from a turbo (other people like the quiet sound of a luxury performance car) Audi decided to go the quieter route, that's all. Racer, all turbo'd cars do need a BOV or a DV. DV's just aren't as popular. |

Re: Blow off vavle questions
They do make bovs that vent back into your intake. That solves the problem you said of venting into the atmosphere.

Re: Blow off vavle questions
The 1.8 has a turbo bypass valve, the 2.7 has two. Also known as blow off valve. They are there for a reason. I'm not sure I understand your question, are you having a problem with one, are you wondering about aftermarket valves? Whats up ? RACER D12 Whats up buddy ?

Re: Blow off vavle questions
some people run into problems venting into the atmosphere. Its either one or the other. There is no downside to recirculating besides the lack of the woooosh sound. The stock bov(bypass valve) should not need to be replaced unless it leaks or you start to run higher boost. When you vent, the air that was vented is assumed to be there by the ecu which could mess up the a/f mixture. Some people dont have that problem though. But i would go with a recirculating bov if you were to get one.

Re: Blow off vavle questions
Well what are your future plans? Because if your doing mods to your car then you might as well remap your ECU with a BOV. If some of your plans include up gradeing your turbo or just uping the boost I think a BOV might be a better choice. However if your not going to do any of that then dont bother.

Hi,
I have an Audi A4 1,8T Q and i bought the exact same bov from that site u posted. I talked to them and they recommended this BOV as it vents air back in and , like with other BOVS, there is no prob with the drive by wire. I live in Aus and was also wonderin if any1 can help me with a chip to upgrade my HP? |
