Twin Turbo Setup Question
Hey Guys,
I know there arnt too many people here running turbos on their mustangs, but I figured I would ask about it anyways. I have always been dying to turbocharge my '01 GT, and come may I will have about $5k to work with. At first, I decided I would drop in a SHM forged shortblock and build up the rear end, and wait for a later time to do the turbo setup. However, it just came to mind that running around town in a low compression engine without the turbo on is going to suck bad. So now I am considering putting a twin turbo kit on the stock engine, running low boost until I can afford to put in the forged block. What do you guys think? Also, what amount of boost can safely be run on 91 octane gas? Thanks for the help. |

Re: Twin Turbo Setup Question
I wouldn't go for more than 8 psi on a stock 4.6 2V, 91 octane or race gas. I think it's a good choice to go with the turbo kit first, you'll have a lot more fun with it.

I think the stock 2V can handle 11psi with reliability. I've seen it done with S/C maybe with a Turbo it will be enough to run into a problem.

IMO iinternals are a secondary. My main consern with any force fed car is pre-deationation. Deffinately need a BIG front mount or an air to water intercooler. Alcohol injection helps alot.

Re: Twin Turbo Setup Question
www.inductionconcepts.com is where I'm going to get my twin kit, and most of the people on those forumn say don't go over 500 hp with stock internals. The Cobras can go a little more b/c of the forged crankshaft. You will definitely need to get forged connecting rods and maybe forged pistons. It would also be a good idea to get lower compression pistons.

I have a Vortec Supercharger.
.(5-9 psi).......It rocks, I gained 130 Hp with it, (stock 245hp-to new 375hp) with the help of new 30lb injectors, Nre throttle body, Vortec Fuel pump, fuel pressure Regulator, and a few other small parts.......Total cost about 5-$6,000 with labor..... ![]() Obviously it wasn't fast enough for me so I am now Dropping the stock motor for a totally new One.....It's in the shop right now. I miss her.....

I just disagree here Boosted..... I think your very intelligent but here we just believe different things. I deal with Vortech Engineers(not salesmen) a lot and talk to them at least once a week. They spend a lot of time creating kits and programs for each individual car so that it will not destroy the engine. If Vortech went around selling kits tailor made for cars that was blowing them up 10,000 miles later they would not be in business still and be #1 selling name in Mustang S/C market.
We have a 02 Rousch Stage 2 that has a Vortech liquid aftercooled S/C kit that I installed running at 10psi. That is a stock 4.6 2v block and the car has 7,000 miles on the since install and 12,000 miles total so we will see if it will make it to 10,000 my money is it will and many miles more.
