95 Cutlass Supreme Overheating
Its a 95 Cutlass Supreme 3.1L
The temp gauge was rising a few days prior. Then it overheated yesterday. When the engine is at normal operating temp., no coolant is running through the upper radiator hose. Just the bottom one. Can it be the thermostat is stuck closed or something to do with the water pump? Sometime the low coolant light would flicker on and off even though there was enough coolant. I read there was a TSB on this though. |

Re: 95 Cutlass Supreme Overheating
Well took it to a shop and they said the raidator is bad, needs to be replaced. They said there was a leak on the raidiator, but I saw no such kind before I took it to the shop. What do you guys think? Shady business going on here?

Re: 95 Cutlass Supreme Overheating
the thermostat is stuck CLOSED OR YOU ARE LOW ON COOLANT NOT JUST THE AMOUNT BUT THE ANTIFREEZE MIXTURE IS IMPORTANT. IF YOU HAD A SLOW LEAK IN THE RADIATOR YOU COULD HAVE THE SYMPTOMS YOU DESCRIBED ASK THE SHOP IF THEY PRESSURE CHECKED IT.

Re: 95 Cutlass Supreme Overheating
hey man I had THE EXACT PROBLEM with the same car identical! OK if you did currently replace the thermostat then I am positive it is a AIR BUBBLE in there. There are two little areas where you can let the air get out while the car is on, I couldnt do my second release it had to get taken off by a dealer and sucked out! (look out they are tricky..and one of the most least expected problems)

This Problem Of Air In The Coolant Passages Can Be Trickey And It Is Not Just Gm Products. I Have Seen A 1992 T-bird With A 3.8l V-6 Fried, Smoked, Burnt Up Rod Bearings. Because The "mechanic" Did Not Open The Bleeding Nut On The Coolant Line Which Was Clearly Labeled And In Plain View. What A Waste!!!!! The Problem This T-chicken Was In For Was Blown
Head Gaskets. Real Common Because The Brillant Minds At Ford Thought Putting Aluminum Heads On A Steel Block With A Crappy Cooling System Was A Good Idea Since They Were Mating It To A Real Piece Of Garbage Transmission. Other Than Those Problems It Is A Typical Ford. Made It To 82000 Miles And Now Is Worth More As A Parts Car . Alot Of Fools Out There Like Fords And You Know They Need Parts!!! |
