Completed: 2003 Ford Thunderbird
New Ford Thunderbird build from the Revell snap kit. Thanks to ZoomZoomMX-5 for recommending the kit despite its hideous box art.
) and put more pictures of the details of the kit on the sides...The kit is made to order for a co-worker to give to his wife. He specified Torch Red with Performance White hardtop and Full Interior Accent Package in Torch Red. He also requested the "WUDAGAL" license plate, which is apparently her real plate, too. ![]() Everything is straight from the box, except seatbelts made with Detail Master buckles and webbing cut from Tamiya tape, and the foglight lenses. I somehow lost the lenses for the foglights, so I replaced them with the cleaar plastic domes from a pair of 4mm googley eyes. ![]() All the paint is Tamiya. Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red and TS-26 Pure White over Tamiya white primer, with details in Tamiya acrylics brushed or airbrushed on, and Tamiya enamels from their paint markers applied with toothpicks. I can still see a few places, generally in the panel lines, that need a bit of touch-up. I'll get some outdoor photos tomorrow. ![]() |

Re: Completed: 2003 Ford Thunderbird
Sweet Jay, I don't like some of the new retro designs coming out but it is good that they are bringing back classic names.
So I am guessing the guys wife owns a red and white `03 Thunderbird? |

Nice to see a new model coming directly from your workbench Jay.
![]() I’m also not a great fan of the new Thunderbird, I rather prefer the old 60’s one, but it turned real nice. Let’s wait for those outdoor pics. |

That came out nice!
They actually made some changes on the "new" for 2003 kit...it's the production car, not the concept car (there's not a lot of difference), so some panel lines were revised and it's got the newer and simpler 7 spoke rims, and it's molded in an interesting "salmon" color.

Re: Completed: 2003 Ford Thunderbird
Looks great, too bad Ford messed up by making it 40K and basing it on the Lincoln LS.

Thanks for the comments, all. I never expected this kit to light any fire amongst this forum. To be honest, I wasn't crazy about the subject myself, which I what I blame for the 4 months of lost modeling time. It's a good reminder to build what you like. ![]() I tried to take some outdoor pics today, but they turned out like crap, the lot of them. oh well. ![]() Thanks again for looking, everyone!

Great work Jay, it looks very good. Too bad you are building it for hire, otherwise you could have taken the car and made it burn a little brighter. I agree that Ford really screwed the pooch on this one; the front end is nice and reminscent of the old cars, but the back is kind of... plain and unappealing. With a little tweaking here and there, that car has potential to be beautiful. Oh well. You did a very good job, though, and I certainly can't find any issues with your build-up of it. Now get to work on that S2000.
