Question Evo VII Hood Scoop Question

Are the hood scoops (or whatever they are) on the Evo VII functional like on the WRX or are they just for looks?

Everything on the evo is functional, it just happens that it also makes it look better.

The WRX and the Evo's hoods are totally different. The WRX uses the hood to "scoop" air into its intercooler which is on top of the engine. As you can see the Evo's intercooler is front center in the huge gap that Mitsubishi calls a bumper. The Evo's hood is used to allow heat to escape from the engine. This improves engine efficiency and allows the engine to run longer and harder. Hope that helps.
