Hi all,
I just bought a 99 Prelude (pearl white) with sportshift (only 1 manual was available within 200 mile radius and was $6k more than this). Now after getting the sportshift I found that there are some problems with this. Mine is a honda certified so have warranty on transmission till June '06 and 100k mi (currently have 56k on it) but still don't want to screw up the transmission. It would be great if you could tell me that if it is ok to shift from SS to full auto while driving. I did that several times today but now I am a bit worried about this. I saw two threads with the same question and in one thread they said I can do this and in the other all of them said that this may screw the transmission. Also, if I have this honda certified warranty on the car then is there any way I might end up screwing the transmission for which I will have to bear the cost? thanks in advance |

ive been driving an 00 prelude ss for about 3 years now and i shift it back and forth all day while driving and it hasnt screwed it up.. i dunno if you got this problem but when i step on the gas full auto it dont shift instantly. it some times takes a few seconds even when floored. so i put it in the ss and shift it manually. and when im just cruzin i put it back in auto. if you want to know the real answer i recomend calling your local honda dealer. if you think about it the manufacture would put some kind of lock on it so you cant shift it while moving like they put a lock on the trans where you cant shift it outta park with out your foot on the break.

You shouldn't have any problems shifting from ss to full auto but do be aware. My tranny recently went out on me at 91k and had to take it to the dealership for a replacement. A good tip would be to get another prelude cluster and take your original out and use the one you bought. If your tranny does go out on you, just replace your original cluster and take it to the dealership before the mileage goes beyond the warranty, this way they'll replace your tranny for free.
