Short shifter installation

ive just bought a TRD short shifter for a 1993 mr2
although the package hasnt arrived yet, my friends are telling me that since the car is a transverese and that it runs on a cable shifter, it is a bitch to install. I wonder if this is true and has anyone done it before. Any tips?

It is relatively easy with basic tools.
It is fairly straight forward.
I have done at least 4 of these.

...feel free to hit me up when you get into it if you have any trouble.

Re: Short shifter installation

I have the B&M and it wasnt too hard, but the shifting does not feel right. I think its too short. It shouldnt be hard to do.

There is really only one way to install it.

Did you use the shift knob that came with the kit or did you use something else? .... maybe something bigger/taller?

Re: Short shifter installation

that's funny, i've dealt with both cable shifters and rod shifters and the cable shifters are FAR FAR easier to work on.
i cleaned and regreased everything when i did mine. if i had to do it again, i think i could install one in 20 minutes.

well even though it says short shifter, it may not necesarily be much shorter than stock. An TRD short shifter, i heard, generally just gives the driver a better feel for the openings of each gear so you dont misshift. Does the shifter feel more sharp? does it go into gears more accurately? My friends tell me these are some of the things that come into play when you buy a factory short shifter. As for B&M, well.. they are just crazy short! it doesnt even feel like you moved it or it doesnt feel like you have the strength to even move it. haha

Do you have a 93+ MR2 by chance? ... they already have a shorter shifter than the 91/92s from the factory.
