Angry 1999 Astro will not start

My 1999 Chevrolet Astro van died the other day!! I was on my was to the gas station because the gauge was showing low fuel, and about a block away from the gas station it died (it only sputtered once). Got to the gas station and put $10 gas in the tank and still no start! Turns over you can hear the fuel pump working and it still doesn't fire. Any ideas???

As you probably noticed I have the exact same problem. So far I am still looking for the solution but in my case I am confident it is a fuel problem. I would suggest to start troubleshooting by pulling a spark plug. I have found it easiest to remove the plugs by removing a tire and pulling them out through the wheel wells. Remove the engine cover in the van, bring the wire and plug into the van. Hold the metal part of the plug to a metal ground, firmly, if you unground it while turning the engine over you will get shocked. Keeping your fingers out of the way of the spark, try to start the engine. The plug should make a healthy blue spark. Even an ungrounded plug should spark a little. If no spark your looking for an electrical ingition problem. I had the center contact of my rotor tab break off once. But it was captured in the cap and made the engine run very bad. It could have stopped the van completly. So I would have a look under the cap. Other possible cause is the wire to the coil, the coil, but first isolate the type of problem your looking for. Fuel, like I have, or electrial. Keep an eye on 1996 ASTRO won't start. I plan to hang in here until its fixed. Good luck and I will be checking for your progress too.

George
