Re: supercharger oil??
GM makes a supercharger oil, see your dealer. The manual doesnt say it, but SC oil, just like motor oil, breaks down over time, it is proper maintenance to change the sc oil about once a year. Use a small turkey baster to siphon the old oil out and fill with new. Fill to the botttom of the threads in the fill cap. It should accept about 2 and a half bottles.

Re: supercharger oil??
Thanks tman, I will change it. I was kinda hoping it would be some std. oil. It probably is, hope gm's rebadge isn't $20 a quart?

Re: supercharger oil??
it was 7.95 a bottle, got three, was easy to change with the turkey baster, thx. was dirty too, probably original, but she has 100k on her and still sounds great. only could get 50cc out, or about 1-1/2 bottles, put the same back in, to the threads.

if you allready got extra left over ,run it for a week or two and pull enough out to finish up extra, you'll be doing a little bit more cleaning
and open oil does have a shelve life so it will go bad

I checked my SC oil and couldn't get any to come out with turkey baster. So I added a bottle and still didn't see any come out. SC seems to work fine...should I be concerned? Maybe I'm using a bad turkey baster to remove fluid? |

Re: supercharger oil??
sometimes, the oil is thrown from the bearing, emptyying the oil "sump" if you will. Just fill it up and you'll at least be better off than you started.

can it end up in the intake rubber tube ?? coze mine seems to have some.. but it's been there a while.. it's all sticky and brown...i changed my SC oil today and what a diffrence! the old one was almost black.. the new one is crystal clear.. the turkey baster worked great!..i couldn't use the shop-vac at the time so.. |

Re: supercharger oil??
It usually doesn't splatter, but more like leaves an oily deposit on the snout of the SC. I'd imagine it could, if the bearing went bad.

Re: supercharger oil??
yeah that what i though, but the oil was not fresh...it was sticky..like pitch..and just stayed there.. but it was full when i opened it up...too full if you asked me.. so if you get pressure in where the oil is and run it at high rpm you get even MORe pressure... just like in a gear box..so the oil has to go out from where..i got an old snowmobile here and i changed the gear box oil... and i think i put a littel too much.. when i was going 60 the oil was getting out by the breather.. until the "too much" was all gone.. then all was ok
![]() so i assume that, since the car is 80 000 miles, that the oil in the super charger is brown..almost black but STILL full..and the last owner never heard of changing the oil in the SC and he had it for the last 10000 miles...the Sc doesn't make noise at all.. the deposit in the intake.....if i add all this up it tells me that : the cars first owner, must have had a problem with the original SC that must have blown bearings or something...and must have gotten it fixed.. and now, it was due for some new oil...because if there was SC deposit in the intake..and it was still full..then it,s not leaking anymore.. right? |

What about synthetic oil for this beast? How thick is the viscosity? Close to 90W oil? Looks like something better could be drummed up. Even a bit of "blending" might be good for this application.
There is a great lubrication that has tremendous shear properties and it is available at WalMart. I've seen videos of engines under power and LOAD, running with NO oil after this stuff was circulated in the engine. Thest was done at Univ of Nebr. testing labs. |
