what in the hell is wrong here???

My car won't go into reverse (Auto). When I start it up it idles at 1.5 rpm then drops down to .5 rpm. When I tap the brakes it will idle higher and if I sit there and pump the brakes a couple of times it will idle all the way back to 1.5 rpms. When I put it in reverse I can hear it idle different I just can't really see it on the rpm gauge. It won't go anywhere in reverse though. Any ideas? Is it a vacume leak? I've been in the market for a a new tranny anyways I just need to know what's wrong 'till then. Thanks.

Hell I would love to swap it over to a 5-speed but i haven't heard any good stories about doing that. The shifter will go in reverse an I can hit the gas all I want but it won't go anywhere. Oh and there was a weird grinding noise when I tried it a min. ago. I was shifting through the gears and it started to make the noise in reverse but faded away in park, I dunno if that helps but I'm trying to give out more info. thanks.

I don't, It did idle at about 1250 rpm, is that what it's supposed to idle at?

Yeah the reverse lights come on, I found out something new, I dunno if this supposed to happen. When I tap the brake pedal there is a clicking sound coming from the gear shift select console thing on the floor. (make any sense?)Thanks.

I think (cause this is what mine idles at...nicely) that it is supposed to idle at about 700-900rpm...ideally...sometimes mine hits 1K.

As far as the gear shifthingy...???...but it sounds $$$

as for the idle, arent autos supposed 2 idle higher then standards? or is it the other way around?? or am i a dumbass??

Re: what in the hell is wrong here???

yup, my tranny did the exact same thing. I had a blown tranny. Got a JDM D15B auto tranny for $150. Slightly shorter gears and really smooth shifts.

Oh...just had a thought...sometimes I have to let my clutch pedal come out ever so slightly to get my shifter to slide into reverse...did this on both my hatch's...just a thought...

Re: what in the hell is wrong here???

the noise from your shifter when you press the brake, is the little parking release lever thats lets you shift the car out of park
