Question 1995 Grand Prix cd player?

Does there exist a 1995 Grand Prix factory cd player? Was checking some junk yards and ebay for a used one, all the ones on ebay say they are for 1996-2002 models. Does the wiring harness not line up for 1995 or something? The 1996 cassette player looks exactly like my 1995. /shrug

And if there is a 1995 cd player, does the steering wheel controls work for the cd player like they rewind/FF on cassette (very sweet btw)

Figured I'd go ahead and upgrade since the display light in my cassette player went out. Found a replacement bulb and instuctions for 30$ or a whole used radio for 20$ Figured get a cd player if gonna take the old one out to fix anyways.

Thanks
Dan

what's the deal with everyone trying to fix there factory radio, man go spend $100 and get an aftermarket radio installed. Better sound, more power and fewere repairs. You never have to worry about the knobs falling off or the lights going out, or anything.

Yeah, I looked around crutchfield at some cd/mp3 players, about 300$. The biggie for me was wanting to use the steering wheel controls, and I'm assuming only factory will handle those.

I agree with JJ. These days aftermark CD players are almost dirt cheap. A person could find a cheap little Audiovox or something like that for under $100, and a respectable Kenwood or Sony for under $200, and most places will install them for free.

I would be concerned about losing the steering wheel controls also, because like all other Grand Prix owners, I love them. Here is a link to an adapter that might help solve the problem:

Yeah those adapters are great they do work, but some of them will only work with certian radios........you know come to think about it I think PFYC sells one that is suppose to work with most aftermarket radios

Re: 1995 Grand Prix cd player?

I have a 94' grand prix. The same thing as yours and I had a factory tape player in it, so I bought a used factory cd player off ebay from a 96 grand am. The factory cd players you see on ebay have the same hook up as the cassette. They will fit perfectly. Also, don't forget firebirds and grand ams have the same cd player, they are not specific to the car. As for the aftermarket cd players I don't really care for them. If your hooking up subs or something aftermarket is definently your way to go. But for a regular cd player it is a whole lot easier to just put in a factory cd player. Hope this helps.

Re: 1995 Grand Prix cd player?

Thanks for the tip 94GSPE, yeah the pontiac delco cd player is about the same across the board. Everything from Firebird to Jimmy.

Now to decide on the one with 5 band equalizer or not

Yeah, I'm spoiled rotten on the steering wheel controls. And since the display light bulb is burned out, I never know what channel on I'm on so just scan thru em. Whenever I drive my 88 oldsmobile, I hit the steering wheel to change the channel and almost (and sometimes do!) honk the horn. doh.

Plenty of pontiac cd players on ebay btw, from 50-125$, not too bad. Didn't know they made a factory cd with weather channel option. go figure.

Re: 1995 Grand Prix cd player?

Glad I could help. I would buy the one without the EQ because I think it is a pain in the ass adjusting the eq to get the sound right, that's just my personal opinion. But you may like it.

Re: 1995 Grand Prix cd player?

be careful on what factory cd player you purchase. Some of them require an external factory amp.
