|
Shaving down tires.
I would like to shave down a set of solid tires that I have. I'm trying to get the car lower and the tires are hitting the tops of the inner fender.
any help would be great. Mike.

In 1/24 scale, right?
If you can, mount the wheel/tire in your drill and lightly apply pressure w/ a sanding stick. Use a low speed, and only do it in short bursts as to not build up too much heat... That's what I'd do, anyhow...

Put some smaller tires on it.. JK
I dont think there really is a good way to get the tires smaller(lower profile) You could chuck them up in a drill and sand the hell out of them but then you got no detail tread wise.. I would suggest trying a few of the following.. Well depends on what your building.. Slammer model(no chassis detail just slammed to the ground)Cut out everything that stands in the way of the tire then if still not low enough Ive seen people cut the tops of the tire completly off. If your doing a full detail model cut out the wheel wells to get it lower. You can also just grind the wheel well to make it a big bigger. Trying the options above should get jsut about anything down to the ground.. UNless your teying to stuff some monster tires in a tiny car.. If ya need more help aim me at phatmitsu69 or even let me know what your building and ill try and help ya see if we can get it lower..

Its a 67 Bug convertable.
There are no inner fenders to shave or remove and just cutting out the top of the tire will look goofy. Its quite common for the old aircooled guys to run temporary spare tires to get the cars lower to the ground.

Yea in a bug there a little diff to get down.. Id try what Jay said but then you lose tread detail. Only other thing to try would be low pro tires.. Good luck on it.. Get some pics for us to see.. Later Rick S.

Ya know, I've had that same problem. I tried with some sanding drums, sanding the inside of the tire, well to fit a bigger rim. never got too good with it. I think you should just sand your tires down, and if they're flat enough, you can call them slicks?
