I have a 98 venture LS. The problem I'm having is the first three settings of the blower switch does't work. But when it's set to 4 or 5 it works fine. I was told the resistor was bad. If thats the case, can anyone tell me where its located and the best way to get to it.
Any help appreciated.. Last edited by kirk1060; 01-22-2004 at 12:42 AM. |

This is the result of a bad resistor pack (device that regulates blower speeds). They are usually mounted somewhere near the switchgear or in the blower box/duct. When the resistor(s) burn out, you typically have only "off" and "high" settings.

Re: blower control switch

Disable the airbag remove the decorative trim The resistor pack is located near the firewall behind the blower motor. It is tricky to get to and an even trickier step is removing the wire harness from the blower motor since it is not visable. I would recommend having a look at a blower to see how it is connected first. Anyway remove this connector and the harness to the resistor pack (about 8 wires). The resistor pack is held by three screws in a triangle formation. The one near the front needs to be removed. The two near the firewall only need to be losened and they are tricky to get to. Once this is done lower the front and slide it forward to release and you should have it. |

resistor replace
just replaced my resistor pack on 98 venture. did not remove anything except the resistor pack. job took 25 minutes because of difficulty in working position. while you only have to loosen the back two screws they are very hard to get the socket on. use 1/4 drive with 7/32 socket and poss short ext. press hard against fire wall and you will get it on there. good luck
