Service Engine Light

1) Will your "Service Engine Soon" light come on if one of your bulbs is burnt out?

2) Does the "Service Engine Soon" light go off by itself if you fix whatever problem it is warning you about, or do you have to manually clear it?

3) 2) If #1 is true and your code reader doesn't check for something that minor, and the minor thing doesn't turn out to be your problem, will the "Service Engine Soon" light come back on again in short order if you clear it?

This is only my second "Service Engine Soon" light experience. The first happened several months ago when my car just died as soon as I came to a complete stop at a red light. It started right back up and ran fine and it never happened again. No other lights came on and it wasn't running hot. We think we had some trash pass through the gas filter. We reset it and it's been running fine ever since with no repeats. Good thing, too, because the gas filter(s) are in the fuel tank ($$$$$). My "Service Engine Soon" light just came back on today and we found and replaced a burnt out parking light bulb.

Also, every winter when it gets cold, I start experiencing problems with my door not shutting all the way. I know this is a fairly common problem to this car, but does anyone know why or how to fix it?

I've had that door problem as well. It's because the window is hitting against the top of the door frame trim. Remove the entire door panel from the inside. You'll see at the bottom left of the glass there is a black round plastic thing screwed to the glass. This thing keeps the window aligned to the door when it closes. Check that this is tightened.
This shoudl fix it.

Do you have this problem only when it is cold? I don't have this problem in the summer time. Does it have to do with the door frame trim expanding and contracting?

i think i am having the same problem with the door. i have to slam it to get it to close all the way and when i drive on the interstate, i can hear the wind coming through the door or the window. is this the same problem u r having??

No, its a Service "ENGINE" Light. Not a Service "CAR" Light.

You have to manually clear it. AutoZone does this for free.

Yes, the code will always reappear as the problem persists.

Yah the door thing is really annoying. It has happened a few times on my passenger door. If you go to MITSU they charge like $75 to fix it, they suck! Also the check engine light could be something as little as the gas cap not being on tight enough. If you dont want to go to autozone you can just disconnect the positive battery connection and then put it back on and the computer will clear itself

eclipsed4utoo, I have done the same thing. When my door is acting up, it sounds like it is closing all the way. I can tell by looking at the door after I get out that it did not close all the way. But when I get in the car, I cannot tell. The door does not rattle and appears to be shut. I got on the Interstate recently and started hearing all kinds of wind when I picked up speed. I looked at the door but did not see ground. I shook the door and it did not shake. I looked at the dash and saw the door ajar icon on.

Several weeks ago the interior light stayed on in my car all night long because the door had not closed all the way and I didn't look back to make sure.

Sometimes if you slam your door too hard you'll get rid of the door ajar icon, however, that doesn't mean that the entire door is properly sealed. Close the door from the inside of the car with the windows up. And then try again with the windows down. See if there is a difference. Then get out, (windows up) and close the door without slamming or pushing on the glass. That means, close the door by pushing near where the handle is.
Look at the window all around near the trims. See if the window fits snuggly into the gap. Check the other side, see if it's the same. If it's not, then get a screw driver.
Open your door, windows down 2/3. remove all visible screws. Remove handle covers, and remove screws. Remove the screw in the small oval cup. Gently pull the bottom out first. Slid the entire door inside panel up and away from the door. Remove the electric window/lock harness from the controls.
Remove plastic covering gently from the door. This is the waterproof so be careful not to tear it too much.
Look inside. you will see a small round black plastic thing screwed to the glass near where the outside door handle is. It's loose isn't it? Tighten this. Put everything back. Put the window controls back. Roll up the window, close the door. Go for a spin on the interstate. Check to see if there is still difficulty closing the door or air entering through the windows.
I truely believe this is the problem. I had this myself and also seen it with a couple others who own the eclipse. If you bring it to the dealership they will do exactly that and charge you $75 for an hour of labor, no parts. And if they decide that they want to charge you for some part as well, then be prepared to pay about $200.

If you need more detailed insturctions to open your door like screw and claw positions, go to the public library and borrow the tech manual for it. You'll find instructions to remove about anythign from your car.

you know what drives me nuts is my sunroof...i hit the button to close it it goes foward and then it starts to open again

Quick Props to GTO for the solution on the window problem, I went out and fixed mine in about 20 minutes, Mine had come completely off and I had to remove my driver door so I knew where to put the parts I found. There is 4 pieces for this stopper, there's the bolt, a plastic washer (a little bigger than a quarter), a metal backing/nut the same size as the plastic washer, and then the actual plastic round piece.

a few notes for others that may try this.

on my 03 eclipse the black plastic piece is actually white instead of black

when putting the door panel back on, it's easiest to roll the window all the way down and try to slide the lip that sits flush against the window from the outside in towards the hinges (i had a problem getting it below the tweeter mounts originally)

when putting the plastic housing back in around the door handle, the handle has to be sitting in the close position and then if you push on the back with your fingers you can slide it back to it's original position. that may be confusing but you'll see if you take your's apart.

I did the passenger window this weekend. Only took about 10 mins, once I figured out how to get the panel off. All the stops were in place, but the adjusters were out of alignment. It was a lot easier and less painful in the pocket then going to mitsu do to it.
