Z28 vs. mustang Gt

Can a 1998 Z28 with Flowmaster exhaust with a manual take a 1995 auto mustang Gt with 3:73 gears, shift kit,Flowmaster exhaust,H pipe,Headers,a cold air intake and I think pulleys too?

Re: Z28 vs. mustang Gt

um, thats an interesting question. flowmaster might be worth around 10-20hp. so your looking at 330hp (est) for the Z, and gearing from 2.73 to 3.42, so thats a variable. i would say the cobra on this one. cuz the Z is essentially stock, vs. a cobra with full on exhaust worked over trans, gears, cold air intake?? i think the cobra would have the edge in that one.

He never said it was a cobra, he said it was a 1995 GT.

The z28 would take the mustang without trouble at all. Many 98+ LS1's dyno at almost 300hp to the rear bone stock. Their 305hp rating is a bit low. The Mustang's auto trannies are not really known for being that efficient, so that would also hurt the GT a bit. The GT would have to be making about 70-80hp with the intake/headers/h-pipe/exhaust/pullies in order to match the z28's hp, which I really doubt is happening.

BTW, if ya don't believe that the LS1's dyno higher than that, a friend's 00 WS6, rated at like 315-325hp from the factory pulled 308rwhp on his first dyno run, bone stock...

Just my $.02...

Re: Z28 vs. mustang Gt

well also, is it a stoplight battle, or a 160mph romp??? makes a diff. cuz if the camaro is running a 2.73 rear, and the GT (corrected myself) is running 3.73, it will be faster out of the hole. even with a power deficit. but the top end will belong to the camaro.

I'm fairly sure the Z would have a 3.23 or a 3.42 rear, since I'm 99% sure that 2.73's were only available in autos...

i agree that the z28 is gonna take this one, it may not be by much but i believe the camaro would win.....

but isn't it funny that ford owners have to load up their cars to even be considered the favor against the camaro i love it, even better how bout you evenly tune the camaro adding the same type stuff and then see what'll happen. plus you're looking at a 5.7L vs. either a 5.0L or 4.6L (can't remember when they changed over, i think it's a 4.6) also keeping in mind that the motors in camaros are downtuned out of the factory as to not outperform the vette engines, so it's not even the true form of the engine. mustangs will almost never win... in my opinion.

Re: Z28 vs. mustang Gt

ahh good point on the auto, forgot it was a manual. well then yeah, i would say the camaro too, but not by much. i just like to play it safe, so im not gonna say the camaro is gonna kill it.

Man I think and almost sure that the camaro will take it. What makes me a little doughtful is all the modification the mustang has. However if at the race you dont fail a gear or make a mistake you will take it for sure ;means: you have the advantage.
