location of factory keyless entry 2000 grand am
I've seen other requests for this information, but with no result. I figured, I'll give it one more try before I start taking apart my car.
Like others on this board, I bought a factory keyless entry module with two remotes (from ebay) that have already been programmed to the module. It's small, black about 2 1/2 inches by 2 inches by 2 inches. It's labled with the GM part number 15732806 and has a 4 pin connector opening, along with two clips on the side of the unit. The remotes are in plastic bag with the number 15732804 and the words AU0 on bag. This kit was advertised as year "2000 kit that would fit the Grand Am" I know my Grand Am (2000) doesn't have the AU0 option since it's not on the back of the spare tire cover. I've also read on various boards that the year 2000 Grand Am seemed to have two possible types of factory keyless remote modules. One that was connected to a blue/black wire somewhere in the trunk. The other possibility was a module that connected to the BCM under the passenger side dash. Now for the question. Does anyone know where this part number 15732806 goes? Is it in the trunk or under the passenger side dash? I also read somewhere that it's possible I may need a cable to connect this unit to the car. Does anyone know a part number for this cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Tim |

Re: location of factory keyless entry 2000 grand am
Not surprisingly, I didn't get any responses to this post (I didn't see any on any of the prior posts from other members of this forum). But I did take apart my Grand Am over the week end and did some more research. I still don't have it installed, but I have some more information, that might help anyone trying this. There is a location in the trunk, right next the trunk light that is an *exact* cut out size that matches the factory keyless remote module. The module clips in perfectly, but after taking apart the rear shelf, I could not find any wires nor any connectors to connect to, in the vicinity of the trunk or rear shelf.
BTW, for those of you doing research on this, GM refers to the Factory Keyless module as an "RFA", Remote Function Actuator. I was able to locate a part on a website that said the Pontiac Grand Am, has two different wiring harnesses, one with RFA and one without RFA. In addition from the Haynes manual I determined on the driver side fuse box, you need an extra relay when there's an RFA installed. So as far as I can tell this isn't as easy as it once seemed. It looks like you need a new wiring harness, plus you need an additional relay for the fuse box. The Haynes manual does show the door locking system, and when the RFA is being used, the relay and BCM get hooked together and 4 wires are used to the BCM (which I wonder if they actually mean go to the RFA, since it has 4 wire input). The wiring diagram shows the 4 wires as white, white, blue and yellow going to the BCM for the keyless option when you have an RFA. Anyway, the short of it, is I think you need at least a new wiring harness (part was $55 online), another relay, and possibly another connecting wire. I did look at the BCM, but I didn't see anywhere on the BCM that had an empty plug to plug this into, but possibly the new wiring harness plugs into the BCM with additional wires coming out for the RFA? Just a guess. Anyone that knows, please let me know. Thanks, Tim |

Re: location of factory keyless entry 2000 grand am
The 2 systems both have keyless but one uses an RFA the other one uses a BCM to do the same job! The BCM system uses an internal RFA while the other as an external RFA.

Re: location of factory keyless entry 2000 grand am
Boy does this get confusing. It turns out GM has an aftermarket package called the VKE 1000 Keyless Entry system, part number 12463355. According to the gmpartsdirect site, it works with the Grand AM for model years 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004, but not with the year 2000
What's so strange about the year 2000 that I can't use this kit? Arghh. I was hoping for a simple solution, but doesn't look like I'm going to find one. Anyone know of a GM aftermarket kit that does work with the 2000? Anyone have a part number? Thanks, Tim |

Re: location of factory keyless entry 2000 grand am
To add even more confusion, there's another part number for the same name kit, VKE 1000 Keyless Entry System, and it fits the Olds Alero 2000, which should be essentially the same car as the Pontiac Grand Am 2000 right?
The part number is: 12497735 And in addition there's a part described as a security harness, part number: 12496909 Will this work with my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, and if so will I need the harness? Thanks, Tim |

OK, the system to get is the VKE1000 or any of the vsc... systems. Here's the VKE item http://www.batee.com/corvette/keylessentry/index.shtml Here's the VSC http://www.aatechnologies.com/../../...ms/vsc3000.asp Both are made by DEI, the makers of Viper car alarms. They are in no way different from ANY Viper keyless entries. If you hold the 2 brains side by side, they would be identical. The VKE ones may be harder to find because they are older units. Both are totally universal and can be put on any car. No matter which one you use, you will have to use DEI part number 451m (for ease of use) or 2 relays to get the locks to work. To do this, lock requires a negative trigger, and unlock requires a negative trigger through a 1,500 ohm resistor. Must use relays. Must close doors to lock with a single pulse. You could go to any DEI shop and buy a DEI keyless entry for about $119 installed. |

Re: location of factory keyless entry 2000 grand am
If it's true these kits are universal, why doesn't GM Parts Direct recommend using this kit with the 2000 model year Grand Am, but does recommend all the other ones?
Strange, eh? I sent them e-mail and all I got back was that the higher number kits 2000, 2200, 3000 and 4000 would work with my car. Tim |

I have a alarm I am installing and it says if my car has a BCM I need to hook up this door trigger thru it, but I dont know where the BCM is located and How to hook up the door trigger to the wires it needs.
Any help of the location of the Body Control Module would be great. I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand am. |
