Salvage History, But Clean Title?

What does it mean if someone is selling a car and it says, "...salvage history but clean title." I'm confused. Is it a bad car to get then?

Re: Salvage History, But Clean Title?

thats not right, if its salvaged i thought it wasnt clear, maybe its a rebuild or something, or it was just an abandoned car at one point or stolen or something, but i dunno, thats weird.

Re: Salvage History, But Clean Title?

I just called him and he said that the car was at first declared a salvaged car, but when he got it repaired it was declared a clean title by the insurance company. Can I trust this?

Re: Salvage History, But Clean Title?

nah, once it's been in a wreck or been stripped. it won't have the same reliability as the original car. that's why the manufactor warranty is voided even if it's well under the milage or lenght of year that the warranty is suppose to cover. price should depend on car/milage/title (clear, clean, salvage, rebuilt). also check carfax. see exactly what's "wrong" with the car before buying it. a clean title doesn't mean the car is perfect again.

This means that the car was either in an accident or was stolen and had some damages inflicted. The guy bought it, usually at auctions, repaired it and when it was checked by the insurance company or the police, it was built back the way its supposed to be and thus has a clean title. In some states like here in california, once a car is salvages, it will always have a salvaged title even if it's rebuilt. Is the car good? Well depends what damage it had, hard to tell especially with frame damages. I know people who do this and have driven such cars, they are fine, can't tell anything. They usually sell cheaper, but its not as good as the original as someone said before.

here in california, the insurance company has nothing to do with checking the car only the dmv. If you buy a salvaged car here and get it fixed up, you take it to dmv for verification, no insurance company involved. On some cars like hondas and toyatos they make you get checked by the CHP (California Highway Patrol) to make sure you have all legal parts on and where you bought them. I dont know about the other states, because some rules are different like about the salvaged titles in cali.
