High idle after swap...

Just finished swapping in my a6 I went to start it and when it puttered to a start, it idled at 3,000 and didnt go down at all. Also, when I hit the gas the RPM's stayed the same but the engine got a bit louder.I also think I hear a hissing when its running. Its almost like theres something clogging the exhaust because it kinda sounds like its suffocating. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I unplugged the IAT sensor and it idled a lot better but its definitly still rough. When I hit the gas now, the tachometer rises which is good. Now though, I noticed some coolant leaking from behind my intake manifold? Like right near the throttle body?? I didnt even know the coolant was routed up there. One of the hoses has a little pin hole in it and its squirting out. Why does coolant go up there? Wheres it go? Whats the part called?

Re: High idle after swap...

I dont know what that hose is, but after replacing my head I had a leak in a similar place. I just went down to kragen and got some hose to replace it with - no big deal.

I think the hose went up right near the air intake and then back down again... odd.

It was spraying coolant like a mofo though.

Thanks so much for replying man, i feel a lot better now knowing that someone has had the same problem. I thought maybe coolant was somehow getting into a vacuum line and shit was all messed up but ill just go get some new hose now. Thanks.

I got the new hose on there now but it still idles real rough and I cant rev past 3,000 rpms. Does it have anything to do with my IAT sensor being unplugged? When it was plugged in, it idled at 3,000 and wouldnt go up when I hit the gas... Whats goin on?

Try checking your intake gasket for leaks. Spray some wd-40 where the head and intake come together. If it straightens out you will have to change it. Just make sure you get ALL the old gasket off or it wont seal. I had a similar prob. with my 90 crx.
