Want to join the 240SX Club
Hi !
I am looking at purchasing a 240SX so I can become a drift mistress ..... dont' want to spend over $1500 - is it possible to get a car in good mechanical condition for that ? What are the nuances with this car, ie. are there any particularly bad things to look for when getting a car like this ? This will be my first rear wheel drive vehicle and I'm not mechanically experienced any advice or suggestions would be appreciated! Cheers Nismo_k |

it's very possible. check out my car in my sig (or what you can see of it anyways). it's in perfect mechanical condition (besides the return spring in the clutch and the gas-tank, both of which will be fixed before February), and just has some minor body rust. it has 194,000km (not sure how many mi. that is) and has alot of rare options, like the front lip, fog lights, and 240SX floor-mats.
i got it for $1000 canadian, which is $800-$850 US as far as i can estimate. all it needs is a new return spring in the clutch, a new gas tank, a new driver's power window motor, a radio headunit, and some rust repair and it'll be good to go. with a car less then $1000, you can't expect to not have to fix things, so be prepared for that. you just have to look. sometimes, it'll take a while (it took me over a year of "shopping" to finally find and land this car. i had a couple close to buying before, but either something came up money-wise, or they sold to someone else first), but you just have to be patient and know that it's all worth it in the end. even though my car doesn't run right now (not until the 30th when i get my clutch fixed), even just seeing it parked in my driveway makes it all worth while. good luck.

Re: Want to join the 240SX Club
yea they are good cars, you can find them cheap easy. for $1500 you could get one with a good engine and no rust and maybe no dents, just with faded paint or that needs new tires or brakes or something like that, just gotta look ALOT. look in your town, and near towns, heck if your really serious about it right now, look in your whole state and surrounding states, maybe across the country if you find a super deal.
basically if you have the patients to wait for the deal and have researched enough to be able to point out little things on a car that will bring the seller down. like when I bought my rx7 a coupe months ago, the drivers side auto seatbelt didn't work, needed a new motor, well I knew that it was a factory recall so I could fix it free, but the guy had no clue. you just gotta study up before you look at it, and don't act too interested in it the first time... maybe say, well its kinda high for me, heres my number if you decide to drop the price... my cousin did that for a 92 240sx he found about 45 miles from him, it was listed at about $2700 I think, then the guy called him 2 days later and said he'd sell it for $2300 and he said it was still too high, so about a week late the guy calls and says ok $1900 and hes like well maybe if it was around $1700 I'd take it and the guy said ok you got a deal. that thing ran beautiful, just need a new driverside front fender and a new spoiler and that about all. although he just recently blew it up, but hes had it since june, it had 145k miles on it, and he did donuts for 2 min. straight before it blew, no hes got a new KA getting put in with 70k miles that only cost him 900 bucks since me and him are putting it in. so even if the engine blows, they are pretty cheap as far as engines go

Re: Want to join the 240SX Club
I literally got my 1994 car for $100. I paid the guy $800 but I sold my old car that I got for $900 for $1600 which literally I got a $700 profit. With that, I only had to use $100 out of my own pocket to get a newer year, lower mileage, higher hp car.

Nice car brian so, i guess while i was gone you desided to dump the van. Anyways..... This is a good car that is very cheap to buy, but there are lots of little things that will need to be fixed, But nothing major until the upper 160k when the tensinors and guides go bad.
Good luck with your drifting. |
