97 caravan dies while driving
My 97 Caravan 3.3 dies while driving. Starts right back up. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong. Noticed lately it cranks longer before starting.
New fuel filter, plugs and the coil and plug wires are 3 years old. Also had Injector cleaning done a year ago. Anyone with any suggestions? |

Re: 97 caravan dies while driving
I presume that the dealer ran all the diagnostics with a scan tool. Usually, on newer vehicles, the scanner will tell what is shutting it down. I suppose a fuel pump that is cutting out would cause this, but to arbitrarily replace it would be an expensive gamble. A good repair facility can run a oscilloscope trace on the the fuel pump current draw to check for problems.
Here is a link that discusses this testing procedure: http://www.lindertech.com/fuelpump.htm The problem is, unless the dealer tech is savy and knowledgeable about these things, they might be reluctant to spend the time to diagnose it. Quote:

Forgot to mention that the fuel pump was changed along with the fuel filter about 3 weeks ago.
