I've had my valve stem seals replaced and my mechanic checked my compression (all four 165+ ...he said was fine), so I don't think it is my rings. He said it may be my valve guides, but I'm looking at $600+ to fix.
It's a '91 DX 1.5 w/ around 100k when problem first appeared. I'm going through a quart of oil every 200 miles or so with no drips/leaks. Any mechanics out there with some advice?? Don't want to spend $600 on a car that's barely worth a grand. Thanks in advance for any help! Werd |

Im willing to bet its your rings. dont let good compression fool you.
My stock engine was a d15b2, smoked like it was on fire...i had a rebuilt head put on it, still smoked, i put a VTEC head on it, still smoked. checked the compression, it was 180 across all cylinders.. just becuase the compression rings are good doesnt mean that the oil rings are.. |

Re: Stem seals fixed, good compression... Still burning oil???
i agree compression rings have nothing to do with oil control. im thinking oil control rings are sticking or just worn out already.
