Oil burning smell, but oil still golden color & good level just before oil change
My 97 4G63 smells like its a barbecue all the time. After a commute, I can smell oil burning, a faint, but positive oil burning smell... I have 100 miles to go before an oil change, but the oil level was perfect and the oil color was a perfect golden. What is that smell?

could just be a leak. our cars leak like a girl. might wana check your valve cover or head for any leaks.

Most likely it is the front of your valve cover dripping onto somewhere near the exhaust manifold. Or like ashah said, anywhere else that gets hot
. Valve cover gaskets on our cars are notorious for leaking, and are quite easy to replace.

hmmm..I think the verdict is unanimous... the gasket then. Because the oil wasn't a bit burnt, I guess that does make good sense... by the way, I have 110K miles....do you think its time for a valve job too?
